About The Position

The Durable Medical Equipment Technician role involves maintaining familiarity with various durable medical equipment (DME), performing public relations functions, and marketing DME and specialty equipment. The technician will need to understand the operation and therapeutic value of DME. Key responsibilities include managing rehab inventory (ordering, receiving, maintenance), collaborating with therapists to meet patient needs, conducting assessments, and providing services based on clinical recommendations. The role also entails setting up, maintaining, and repairing rehab equipment, as well as handling incoming freight, pricing, stocking, coding invoices, and entering product information into inventory software. The technician will work under the direction of the Rehab Specialist and/or Inventory Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Must have current CPR certification or be able to obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Basic mechanical aptitude, good organizational skills and the ability to adapt to changes and frequent interruptions required.
  • Ability to interact effectively, professionally with the public and perform public relations tasks.
  • Possess strong organization and attention to detail skills.
  • Possess strong verbal communication skills in person and over the phone.
  • Ability to use current computer software including excel, word and other operating systems required.
  • Lifts objects from 35 pounds to 160 pounds.
  • Sits, stands and walks intermittently during the workday.
  • Deals with public, personnel and customers under all circumstances.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with and knowledge of durable medical equipment, wheelchair classifications and groups, patient lifting devices and ramps preferred.
  • Possess knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid guidelines with respect to mobility devices preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience in a field associated with physiology and human anatomy as it relates to rehabilitation and mobility products preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain familiarity with most durable medical equipment.
  • Perform public relations functions and market durable medical equipment and specialty equipment.
  • Understand the operation and therapeutic value of durable medical and related DME.
  • Manage rehab inventory, including ordering, receiving, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Work closely with rehabilitation and physical therapists to meet patient needs.
  • Conduct assessments and provide services associated with clinical recommendations.
  • Provide set up, maintenance, and repair services for rehab equipment.
  • Receive incoming freight, including pricing, stocking, coding invoices, and entering product into inventory software.
  • Answer telephones, assist walk-in customers, and follow up on sales and service of DME.
  • Perform basic wheelchair seating and other rehab product assessments.
  • Provide rehab equipment services resulting from the assessment and referral process.
  • Conduct rehab equipment inventory management to include ordering, receiving, and maintenance of rental fleets.
  • Perform wheelchair and other rehab product repairs and maintenance.
  • Ensure equipment is clean and in working condition at all times.
  • Provide in-service staff and referral sources.
  • Pull and stage outside clinic orders.
  • Deliver and set-up durable medical equipment.
  • Educate patients on the proper use and cleaning of durable medical equipment.
  • Complete necessary paperwork for insurance reimbursement and recording of sales.
  • Keep current on all computer programs and educate others of changes.
  • Maintain a clean and working vehicle at all times.
  • Maintain, clean, and organize warehouse as needed.
  • Receive, price, and stock incoming freight.
  • Process and code invoices.
  • Create Purchase Orders or Transactions and enter items into the inventory software.
  • Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work as scheduled by department leadership.
