About The Position

Requirements

• Associate of Science degree, preferably in Information Technology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• At least 2 years of experience in computer hardware and/or software installation related to medical devices and electronic health records.
• Experience in medical equipment field service, with demonstrated knowledge and skill in supporting medical equipment.
• Direct work experience with Windows operating systems, client and/or server.
• Proficiency using testing instruments, devices, simulators, and tools associated with servicing medical equipment.
• Understanding of LAN and WAN operation and protocols.
• Ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and resolve equipment malfunctions.
• Applicants must be U.S. citizens or currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
• Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust or Suitability Determination, depending on agency background investigation requirements.

Nice To Haves

• Work experience with Linux or Windows operating systems.
• Experience assessing vulnerability announcements and implementing patches and/or other compensating cybersecurity controls.

Responsibilities

• Manage lifecycle activities for network equipment and infrastructure supporting networked complex medical devices and systems, including switches, servers, and routers.
• Identify and troubleshoot issues involving VLAN configuration, IP addressing, subnetting, HL7, DICOM, Access Control Lists (ACLs), and network security across the medical device network.
• Use network test equipment and software, including tracers, wireless spectrum analyzers, network traffic monitors, command prompt, and physical and virtual server software.
• Manage, troubleshoot, and maintain computerized networks, databases, and servers, including biomedical information systems that store or facilitate patient information.
• Design, implement, and manage network incident response for infection, loss of service, or regional and local policy changes according to VA guidelines.
• Ensure proper security configurations for assigned devices and networks.
• Work with manufacturers to implement device configurations, patches, and best practices.
• Investigate and resolve software issues on medical devices when appropriate.
• Perform periodic maintenance and hardware or software installations and upgrades.
• Review medical device configurations.
• Evaluate hardware and software applications as they relate to medical devices.
• Travel to client locations as required.
