About The Position

Cabildo Staffing is seeking an experienced Sheet Metal Mechanic for a commercial HVAC ductwork fabrication shop in Metairie, LA. This is a skilled position requiring the ability to independently lay out, form, assemble, and complete HVAC ductwork accurately and efficiently with minimal supervision. Starting Pay: $28.15/hour Union Requirement: Employees must join the Sheet Metal Workers Union within 90 days of employment.

Requirements

  • Previous experience fabricating commercial HVAC ductwork in a sheet metal fabrication shop - Light gauge ductwork
  • AWS D1.1 Welding Certification
  • Ability to independently lay out, form, and assemble ductwork.
  • Strong knowledge of duct fittings, seams, joints, gauges, reinforcements, and fabrication methods.
  • Ability to read a tape measure and perform trade-related calculations accurately.
  • Ability to read and work from fabrication drawings and shop plans.
  • Experience operating standard sheet metal fabrication equipment safely.
  • Dependable with strong attendance and punctuality.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality workmanship.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Read and interpret shop drawings, fabrication details, and ductwork specifications.
  • Independently lay out and form rectangular, round, and specialty ductwork and fittings.
  • Fabricate elbows, transitions, offsets, reducers, taps, plenums, and equipment connections.
  • Operate fabrication equipment safely, including brakes, shears, rolls, forming equipment, spot welders, and hand tools.
  • Assemble ductwork using appropriate seams, joints, reinforcements, and hardware.
  • Verify dimensions and completed work for accuracy and quality.
  • Meet production schedules and fabrication deadlines.
  • Minimize material waste and properly handle galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other sheet metals.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Follow all company safety policies and quality standards.
  • Assist and mentor less-experienced shop personnel as needed.
