This Air Reserve Technician (ART) position is part of the regular career civil service and requires the employee to maintain active membership in the assigned Air Force Reserve unit. ARTs receive, on average, one weekend of military training per month. The work schedule is aligned to allow full participation in unit training assemblies. Regular assignments are ART duties; some non-ART duties may be assigned, generally not exceeding 30 percent of total responsibilities. The position maintains multi-system avionics complexes comprising integrated electronic avionics systems. Work includes removing, installing, modifying, overhauling, maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, aligning, calibrating, and rebuilding systems that perform multiple major functions. The mechanic performs operational and final testing, advises engineering personnel on the maintenance effects of proposed technical orders or modifications, follows safety and tool-control procedures, and prepares or carries out training plans. The employee may fly on military or contract aircraft for temporary-duty maintenance or training and may support other units.
