About The Position
The Material Handler safely and efficiently handles, moves, stages, and stores raw materials and finished goods in support of production and shipping operations. The role supports accurate inventory control, proper packaging and documentation, safe equipment operation, and clear communication with team members and drivers while maintaining a clean, organized, safety-focused work environment. This position operates forklifts and, when applicable, trash compactors and material grinders. It includes staging materials for production and finished goods for shipment, inspecting products, packaging and labeling materials, maintaining inventory records, and completing shipping paperwork. The employee is also responsible for safe equipment use and care, workplace housekeeping, and reporting safety or quality issues. Other job-related responsibilities may be assigned, and reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Requirements
- Ability to read and understand work instructions and communicate effectively.
- Ability to work scheduled hours and occasional required overtime.
- Ability to self-manage time effectively and serve multiple areas.
- Must pass the Material Handler Certification Test.
Responsibilities
- Safely operate a forklift to stack, load, unload, and move raw materials and finished goods to required departments or locations.
- Stage appropriate materials for production in a timely manner and stage finished goods for shipment.
- Operate equipment such as trash compactors and material grinders, if applicable.
- Ensure raw materials and finished products are banded, properly packaged, and labeled.
- Inspect materials for defects or quality issues and report issues to the supervisor.
- Complete necessary shipping paperwork and communicate with drivers about loading or unloading and dock locations.
- Maintain accurate inventory counts and proper storage of inventory.
- Maintain a safe working environment, monitor work processes for safe conditions, and report issues.
- Ensure proper use, care, and maintenance of equipment.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members.
- Keep the work area clean and organized, including sweeping and wiping down surfaces.
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
