About The Position
To help us in our mission to professionalize and innovate telecom construction, ByVerTek is now seeking a Utility Locator. The Utility Locator is responsible for identifying, locating, and marking underground utility lines to ensure safe excavation and construction activities. This role is essential to preventing service disruptions, protecting critical infrastructure, and maintaining compliance with industry regulations. Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Strong understanding of underground utility systems and damage prevention practices
- Ability to read and interpret maps, blueprints, and technical drawings
- High attention to detail with strong problem-solving skills
- Effective communication and organizational skills
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced field environment
- Basic proficiency with mobile technology and data entry systems
Nice To Haves
- Prior experience in utility locating, construction, or telecommunications preferred
- Experience with locating equipment (e.g., electromagnetic locators, ground-penetrating radar) is a plus
Responsibilities
- Perform accurate field locates of underground utilities using electromagnetic locating equipment and other advanced technologies
- Identify and mark utilities including fiber optic, telecommunications, gas, electric, water, and sewer lines in accordance with industry standards and local regulations
- Interpret construction drawings, utility maps, and as-built documentation
- Respond to locate tickets within required timeframes and service level agreements
- Document completed locates with detailed notes, photos, and sketches using company systems and mobile applications
- Communicate effectively with construction crews, project managers, and property owners regarding locate results and potential conflicts
- Maintain, inspect, and calibrate locating equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability
- Adhere to all company safety policies, OSHA standards, and damage prevention best practices
- Report damages, near-misses, or discrepancies immediately and assist with incident investigations as needed
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and maintain a high standard of quality and accountability in all work performed
