About The Position

A Journeyman Lineworker Locator is a highly skilled, certified professional responsible for the safe installation, maintenance, and repair of underground and overhead power distribution systems for residents and business. In this specialized capacity as a utility locator, they use advanced equipment to locate, trace, and mark underground electric utilities to prevent service disruptions and safety hazards during excavation.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or G.E.D
  • Successful completion of an accredited Electrical Lineworker program
  • 4-years’ experience in similar position
  • Holds an active Journeyman Lineworker card
  • Must reside within 40 minutes of the Chaska Municipal Services Building (using Google Maps, MapQuest, Waze, Apple Maps as a guide – may be asked to provide proof).
  • Valid MN Driver’s License (Class A with applicable endorsements)
  • Ability to trouble shoot and diagnose electrical problems; exercise independent judgment
  • Flexibility to participate in on-call schedule as well as emergency situations
  • Math aptitude

Responsibilities

  • Locates and marks all electric utilities at residential, commercial and industrial jobs site prior to work starting on construction or remodel
  • Surveys existing and newly installed underground utilities to accurately document locations in GIS software
  • Reviews blueprints and plans to identify potential utility conflicts
  • Provides electrical installation for new customers and terminates services where required
  • Responds to outage service calls, determines nature and cause of failure, decides on and implements course of restorative action for residential and commercial customers
  • Provides routine maintenance for City’s electrical system, including circuit and wiring repair and replacement, trouble shooting and identifying potential hazards and solutions
  • Provides street light repairs where scheduled for routine maintenance as well as reported outages or other problems
  • Participates in overhead and underground construction projects where line work, pole construction, is required
  • Maintains equipment, tools and supplies needed for line work, documenting and ordering additions or replacements
  • Performs reading of meters
  • Provides on-going line clearance including tree cutting and trimming
  • Promotes quality customer relations, acknowledging any concerns and bringing them to lead line worker or foreman for resolution
  • Participates in on-call rotation; as a municipal employee, maintains availability for emergency situations
  • Performs all other related duties as requested or assigned
