This role involves taking color measurements using a spectrophotometer and assisting with other spectro tasks such as light blocking of textiles or safety orange testing. The assistant will also help with electronic color assessments, build and adapt basic setup and test equipment, and perform tests using general laboratory equipment. Responsibilities include routine care of equipment and work areas, operating computer terminals for data entry and software use, following defined test plans, evaluating test performance, and recording and explaining test results. The role also requires preparing charts, graphs, and reports, examining test samples, reading measuring instruments, reviewing data with a supervisor, and interpreting blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams. Additionally, the assistant will examine customer samples, learn to operate basic tests, communicate with customers during setup and operation, and operate laboratory equipment as directed. The position involves reporting data to engineers and other laboratory staff, recording data on appropriate sheets, developing working knowledge of the job, and integrating continuous improvement concepts. Adherence to the Underwriters Laboratories Code of Conduct and all security practices is mandatory. Other duties as directed will also be performed.
