About The Position

McKinney Specialty Labs is seeking an entry-level Laboratory Technician to perform laboratory tasks that meet client expectations and generate defensible data efficiently, profitably, and on time. The role is assigned to one of the GC, LC, GCMS, or LCMS groups, and work is performed under the direction of the Group Leader. The technician prepares and extracts samples, determines sample volumes, cleans glassware and laboratory areas, prepares reagents, and maintains organized records. The role also supports Group Leaders and Analysts with acquiring and inventorying laboratory supplies, chemicals, and instrument parts. The technician works with chemicals, glassware, and tobacco/nicotine products, follows quality assurance and health and safety policies, adapts to changing priorities, and performs other duties as assigned by the Group Leader or Lab Director. McKinney Specialty Labs is a growing scientific organization in Richmond, Virginia, providing testing and regulatory science solutions for nicotine and other aerosolized products. The expected pay is $20.00–$22.00 per hour, with starting pay based on qualifications, experience, and role requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree, bachelor’s degree, or Career Studies Certificate in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • Prior laboratory experience; the position is entry level and prior experience is not required.
  • Knowledge of analytical methods, analytical instruments, general laboratory practices, and laboratory safety.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare samples for analysis.
  • Determine sample volumes.
  • Clean laboratory glassware.
  • Prepare reagents for laboratory use and/or shipment.
  • Perform sample extractions.
  • Maintain clean laboratory areas.
  • Maintain organized records of sample preparation and analysis.
  • Assist Group Leaders and Analysts in acquiring and inventorying consumables, chemicals, and instrumentation parts.
  • Work with chemicals, glassware, and tobacco/nicotine products.
  • Adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple tasks.
  • Comply with the company’s Quality Assurance Program and other policies.
  • Comply with the company’s Health and Safety Plan.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Group Leader or Lab Director.
