About The Position

RELA Language Professionals is seeking qualified Medical & Community Bilingual Interpreters for on-site positions. This is an independent contractor role (1099) with part-time, flex, and on-call hours. RELA is focused on revolutionizing language access by creating a supportive community for interpreters, emphasizing continuous learning, professional development, and a family-like network. The company aims to set new standards in healthcare interpretation across over 80 languages, valuing interpreter skills and contributions. The role involves facilitating accurate communication, ensuring comprehension, managing specialized terminology, handling sensitive situations professionally, and documenting services.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Certificate from a nationally accredited 40-hour interpreter training program (e.g., Bridging the Gap, The Community Interpreter International, Cross Cultural Health Care Program, or other CCHI or NBCMI recognized programs)
  • Fluency in English and target language(s)
  • Strong medical terminology knowledge in both languages
  • Demonstrate professional proficiency in each working language, including English, via High School Diploma or College Degree where the working language is the primary language of instruction, ACTFL: Advanced-Mid or higher, ALTA: Score of 9 or higher, or ILR/Government: Level 2+ or higher
  • Current immunizations or approved exemption
  • Drug screening
  • Clean background check
  • Ability to obtain facility-specific credentials
  • Annual facility specific compliance trainings
  • Reliable personal vehicle with ability to travel throughout service area
  • Smartphone with reliable data plan
  • Mobile check-in/out apps
  • Email & SMS communication
  • GPS navigation capabilities
  • Ability to navigate various healthcare environments
  • Current resume or application
  • Language Proficiency Assessment Certificate (ACTFL OPI or ALTA Preferred) or Education Verification
  • Interpreter training credentials (certificate of training)
  • Immunization/Vaccine Records
  • Background Check Authorization
  • Drug Screening Test (10 Panel)
  • Professional headshot (for ID badge)

Nice To Haves

  • National certification (CCHI or NBCMI)
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree
  • 1+ year medical/community interpreting experience
  • Healthcare system familiarity
