Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry. This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 7+ years of experience (preferably facilities experience) or Bachelor’s degree in any field and 15+ years of engineering experience.
  • Experience working in manufacturing or industrial environments.
  • Experience working with and managing system process and controls for facilities and environmental systems.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Exceptional time management and organization skills
  • Demonstrated ability to take projects from conception to commissioning, balancing several at a time.
  • Experience working with suppliers, contractors, technical staff
  • Skilled at reading and interpreting drawings and piping and instrumentation diagrams
  • Can identify potential problems and offer corrective or preventative actions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide the leadership to plan, scope, coordinate and control complex projects involving multiple disciplines for optical fiber manufacturing processes in the Wilmington plant, improving our ability to understand and control these processes services and thereby meeting our manufacturing objectives.
  • Act as the principal lead on one or more projects and provide facilities technical leadership on other plant projects.
  • Provide facilities technical leadership for plant systems including pollution abatement, raw material delivery, facilities and structural systems.
  • Manage the plant capital portfolio and provide coaching/guidance for plant appropriations requests to ensure capital guidelines are met.
  • Principal lead on one or more projects
  • Define the scope, financial impact, key activities, and timeline for the projects
  • Secure capital funding and manage spending within budgetary requirements
  • Monitor and control the technical, cost, and time objectives of the projects.
  • Ensure coordination, interaction, and manage resource utilization of appropriate groups on projects
  • Effectively communicate plans, progress, and problems to all concerned parties
  • Provide facilities technical leadership on one or more projects
  • Ensure facilities needs are included in major projects
  • Provide scope, cost and timing estimates for the facilities deliverables
  • Ensure implementation of the facilities portion of the project scope, either through direct leadership of the facilities work or through coaching/steering the project team
  • Collaborate with other organizations that are involved in the projects
  • Manage the plant capital portfolio and appropriations request process
  • Track and report monthly spending and forecasts for all capital projects in the plant portfolio
  • Serve as the plant expert on current requirements for appropriations requests and support other plant personnel in authoring capital requests
  • Act as a plant consultant on problems involving delivery and integration of process services for the Wilmington plant, including pollution abatement, raw material delivery, facilities and structural systems.
  • Collaborate with division and corporate facilities teams to benchmark and share best practices related to facilities systems, raw material delivery, pollution abatement and sustainability improvements
