About The Position

DecisionPoint seeks a Senior Storage / SAN Engineer to support enterprise storage, Storage Area Network infrastructure, data protection, service restoration, component modernization, and continuity-of-operations capabilities for the USMEPCOM ENLIST program. The role configures and troubleshoots SAN fabrics, storage arrays, Fibre Channel switches, zoning, Fabric Logins, and WWN/PWWN connectivity. It also supports performance analysis, capacity management, component refreshes, migrations, recovery activities, technical documentation, and integration with server, virtualization, network, cloud, backup, and security platforms. The engineer supports COOP and disaster-recovery readiness, exercises, failover activities, backup validation, service restoration, and corrective-action planning. The position is remote, with a preference for candidates in the Chicago area. After-hours work or travel may be required during outages, maintenance windows, storage migrations, refreshes, COOP exercises, or COOP activation. By applying, candidates acknowledge and consent to having their resume included in an active competitive government contract bid.

Requirements

  • Active Secret clearance or higher.
  • Bachelor’s degree or a relevant technical degree.
  • At least 7 years of relevant storage engineering, SAN administration, systems engineering, data-center infrastructure, or enterprise IT experience.
  • Demonstrated experience configuring and troubleshooting SAN fabrics, storage arrays, switches, zoning, Fabric Logins, and WWN/PWWN connectivity.
  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, performance-tuning, documentation, recovery-planning, and stakeholder-coordination skills.
  • Ability to support after-hours outages, maintenance windows, migrations, refreshes, COOP exercises, and disaster-recovery activities when required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting enterprise storage or SAN infrastructure in a federal or Department of Defense environment.
  • Experience with Dell Technologies, NetApp, Pure Storage, HPE, IBM, Hitachi, or comparable enterprise storage platforms.
  • Experience with Brocade, Cisco MDS, or comparable Fibre Channel switching technologies.
  • Advanced knowledge of Fibre Channel fabrics, zoning, FLOGIs, name services, inter-switch links, host-bus adapters, multipathing, and redundant storage designs.
  • Experience with Fibre Channel, iSCSI, NFS, SMB, object storage, and cloud-storage technologies.
  • Experience integrating storage with VMware vSphere, ESXi, vCenter, vSAN, Microsoft, Linux, database, backup, and cloud platforms.
  • Experience with snapshots, replication, backup, restoration, failover, failback, and disaster-recovery technologies.
  • Experience supporting COOP or disaster-recovery exercises involving physically separated data centers.
  • Experience diagnosing storage latency, throughput, IOPS, capacity, pathing, fabric, host, and application-performance issues.
  • Experience planning and executing storage refreshes, data migrations, firmware upgrades, array replacements, and SAN cutovers.
  • Experience developing capacity forecasts, storage-allocation recommendations, performance reports, and lifecycle plans.
  • Experience supporting storage-related outages, vendor escalation, service restoration, and root-cause analysis.
  • Experience applying DISA STIGs and supporting DoD RMF, ATO, IAVA, CND Directive, vulnerability-remediation, and POA&M requirements.
  • Certifications from Dell Technologies, NetApp, Pure Storage, HPE, IBM, Hitachi, Brocade, Cisco, VMware, or another relevant storage or infrastructure provider.
  • CompTIA Server+, Storage Networking Industry Association certification, or an equivalent industry credential.
  • ITIL Foundation or higher certification.

Responsibilities

  • Configure, administer, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot enterprise SAN fabrics, storage arrays, switches, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Configure and maintain Fibre Channel fabrics, switch domains, ports, aliases, zones, zone sets, and associated fabric services.
  • Diagnose and resolve Fabric Login, zoning, name-server, pathing, inter-switch-link, and fabric-connectivity issues.
  • Configure and troubleshoot WWN and PWWN connectivity among storage, switches, servers, appliances, and virtualization platforms.

  • Support Fibre Channel, iSCSI, NFS, SMB, or other approved enterprise storage protocols.
  • Integrate storage services with physical servers, virtual machines, VMware environments, backup platforms, databases, cloud services, and infrastructure appliances.
  • Monitor storage availability, capacity, utilization, latency, I/O operations, throughput, cache performance, errors, and overall health.
  • Diagnose storage-performance issues and identify bottlenecks involving hosts, fabrics, arrays, networks, applications, databases, or virtualization platforms.
  • Develop capacity forecasts and recommend storage allocation, expansion, optimization, reclamation, or refresh actions.

  • Develop implementation plans, migration procedures, maintenance steps, validation criteria, rollback procedures, and outage contingencies.
  • Stage, configure, test, implement, and validate new or replacement storage and SAN components.
  • Support non-disruptive migrations and minimize operational impact during storage-refresh and cutover activities.
  • Maintain accurate storage, SAN, asset, configuration, warranty, licensing, support-agreement, and lifecycle records.
  • Support inventory audits, equipment disposition, repository updates, and lifecycle reporting.
  • Configure and support backup, restoration, replication, failover, failback, high availability, and disaster-recovery capabilities.
  • Maintain, test, and validate system backups required to recover from local failures, storage failures, or loss of the primary site.
  • Support quarterly COOP exercises involving primary and backup data centers.
  • Support power-down, failover, backup-site operations, service validation, failback, and post-exercise corrective actions.
  • Provide technical support during COOP activation and increased user or system demand.
