About The Position

Mary Cariola Center is seeking a DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONAL II - STAFF SUPPORT SPECIALIST. This role involves assisting with the training and support of new staff, implementing individual program plans for residents, and ensuring their active participation in home and community activities. The position also includes direct care responsibilities such as assisting with personal hygiene, meal preparation, and fostering communication skills. Accurate documentation using PrecisionCare software and adherence to safety procedures are essential. Requirements

  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English including interpreting documents such as safety rules and policy and procedure manuals
  • Possess a current and valid NYS drivers license
  • High School Diploma or GED

Responsibilities

  • Assist with orientation and training of new staff in all individual program plans, data collection systems and direct care responsibilities
  • Act as a “training mentor” to new staff by maintaining communication with the new employee, monitoring their training progress and ensuring they complete their training packet
  • Assist in keeping the training packet up to date, making updates when needed
  • Obtain and maintain Train-the-Trainer certifications for SCIP-r or CPR/First Aid, providing new staff training and updates in these areas, as requested
  • Attend any medical/health related appointments of the residents as needed
  • Facilitate active participation of the residents by implementing their individual program plan in their home and community
  • Implement behavior support plans and Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention (SCIP-r) accurately and consistently
  • Engage in any necessary lifting, moving and/or positioning tasks for residents
  • Facilitate improved gross motor, fine motor and range of motion skills
  • Promote and facilitate self-care and personal hygiene
  • Assist residents with bathing, toileting, dressing and eating as needed including modeling appropriate behavior, using therapeutic equipment and/or therapeutic feeding
  • Perform housekeeping tasks when needed including but not limited to: meal preparation, cleaning, laundry and shopping
  • Foster receptive and expressive communication through many different avenues including sign language, pictograms and electronic devices
  • Accurately and consistently complete all required documentation in a continuous manner by utilizing PrecisionCare software and in written form, when necessary
  • Attend and actively participate in staff meetings, case reviews, in-service sessions, etc.
  • Implement fire, safety and emergency procedures, assisting with fire drills when needed
  • Assist with fire drills
  • Administer medications to residents
  • All other duties as assigned
