About The Position

The custodian plays a vital role in maintaining a safe, clean, attractive, and comfortable environment conducive to learning, play, and development for students and staff. This role involves performing daily and scheduled cleaning duties, assisting with facility use by external groups, and undertaking general maintenance tasks to ensure the building and grounds are well-kept and hazard-free. The custodian also monitors building systems for comfort and energy efficiency, reports safety concerns, manages supplies, and assists with moving furniture and equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain assigned areas (classrooms, hallways, restrooms, shared spaces) at a high standard of cleanliness and safety.
  • Remove hazards that could lead to accidents or fires.
  • Conserve resources and ensure efficient use of supplies and utilities.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, and welcoming environment that supports students' physical and emotional well-being.
  • Perform daily and scheduled cleaning duties.
  • Assist external groups and organizations using school facilities.
  • Make minor repairs to equipment and furnishings.
  • Perform general maintenance tasks including snow removal, grass cutting, window cleaning, light bulb/ceiling tile replacement, restroom cleaning, dusting, vacuuming, carpet cleaning, and floor care.
  • Support the delivery and unloading of supplies.
  • Provide assistance with light construction or special projects.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance team.
  • Maintain the building and grounds, ensuring sidewalks, driveways, and play areas are clean and hazard-free.
  • Monitor and regulate heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems.
  • Ensure all exit doors are accessible and operational daily.
  • Report property damage or safety concerns to the principal immediately.
  • Maintain an accurate inventory of custodial supplies and equipment and request replenishments.
  • Move furniture and equipment as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the upkeep and function of the school building or district.
