Background Investigator Jobs

The 1099-contract investigator conducts federal background investigations in support of national security and suitability investigations. The work includes fieldwork such as interviewing people and retrieving records, then preparing reports of investigations (ROIs) in compliance with applicable laws, federal standards, and federal agency regulations. Investigators accept assignments requiring travel throughout their geographic area of responsibility, with opportunities for temporary-duty assignments outside that area. The role requires meeting assigned investigative deadlines and maintaining professional communication and conduct in a time-sensitive work environment. Investigators monitor, maintain, convey, and appropriately destroy data and documents; meet government and industry standards for quality, integrity, timeliness, and productivity; and maintain required training, security, and credential compliance. They also develop and maintain cooperative working relationships with ADC employees and contractors, report field-observed trends and updates, and perform other related duties as required. Compensation is based on the number of assigned cases completed, not an annual salary. The stated compensation range is an estimate based on working 40 hours per week, from the base rate through the Premier Contract Investigator rate.
