Aerospace PPE Requirements Lead Systems Engineer

About The Position

HX5 is seeking a senior-level systems engineer in Brook Park, Ohio, to support the GEARS contract at NASA Glenn Research Center. NASA’s mission to demonstrate deep-space nuclear-electric propulsion will adapt Gateway’s Power and Propulsion Element (PPE) for use with Space Reactor-1 (SR-1) Freedom as its structural and propulsion foundation. The selected candidate will support development and documentation of interface requirements at the SR-1 vehicle level. SR-1 is planned to launch in December 2028 and is intended to provide a path to future higher-power and longer-duration missions. The selected candidate will serve as the PPE Requirements technical lead, coordinating technical collaboration among relevant NASA Centers and PPE industry partners, ensuring system requirements are accurately and thoroughly defined, and coordinating subsystem- and system-level test planning for requirement closure criteria. The role will also support other technical leads and teams for PPE systems engineering, integration, and verification (SE&I). The effort is monitored by the Science and Space Technology Systems Branch at NASA Glenn Research Center.

Requirements

  • Experience working with and leading cross-discipline technical teams.
  • Experience with NASA systems engineering processes.
  • Experience with NASA spaceflight hardware projects.
  • Experience with system and subsystem integration for large spacecraft.
  • Experience defining requirements and their verification and validation (V&V).
  • Excellent communication skills for interacting with the NASA team and industry partners.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently.
  • Committed to successful collaboration with the NASA team and industry partners.
  • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM-related major from an accredited program, with at least 20 years of relevant experience; or a Master of Science degree with at least 15 years of relevant experience; or a Ph.D. with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Proof of U.S. citizenship or U.S. permanent residency.
  • Must have or be able to obtain a security clearance.

  • Experience working with NASA.
  • Experience defining large spacecraft architectures.
  • Experience working with program or project managers.

Responsibilities
