The 911 Telecommunicator-Dispatcher role handles rotating day or night shifts. The schedule alternates between a 36-hour workweek and a 48-hour workweek. Day shifts run from 5:45 AM to 5:45 PM, and night shifts run from 5:45 PM to 5:45 AM. During training, employees are assigned an available trainer. After training, the Communications Center Manager works with employees to determine their regular shift and schedule. Shift preferences are considered but are not guaranteed. Starting pay is $13.86 per hour for candidates with no prior experience. Night shifts receive an additional $0.30 per hour. Upon successful completion of phone and radio training, pay increases to $14.89 per hour. Employees may also receive performance-based annual increases and anniversary increases after their first year and every three years thereafter. Part-time positions are available only to fully trained, experienced dispatchers who have previously worked for the department. They are as-needed positions with no guaranteed weekly hours, aside from a monthly minimum threshold, and hours can vary significantly. New hires are not eligible for part-time work because initial training covers basic skills and full proficiency takes considerably longer to achieve.
