911 Dispatcher/Telecommunicator - LATERAL ONLY
About The Position
The Shelby County Emergency Management Communications District (Shelby County 911) is seeking experienced, professional, and motivated individuals for lateral transfer opportunities as 911 Telecommunicators. Our Telecommunicators perform a variety of telephone and computer-aided operational duties, including 911 call taking and dispatching of law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services. We also assist the public with routine non-emergency and business-related calls. This posting is intended for candidates with prior public safety communications experience who are looking to continue their career in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. Experienced Telecommunicators will find this an opportunity to make an immediate impact while supporting the citizens of Shelby County and partnering with our field responders.
Requirements
- Prior experience as a 911 telecommunicator/dispatcher.
- Ability to meet all or some of the certification and training requirements established by the agency.
Responsibilities
- Perform a variety of telephone and computer-aided operational duties, including 911 call taking and dispatching of law enforcement, fire, and emergency medical services.
- Assist the public with routine non-emergency and business-related calls.
- Make sound decisions quickly.
- Take control of conversations.
- Obtain accurate information from callers.
