About The Position

The PTM, Special Projects, & Volunteer Manager is responsible for three critical pillars of Kroc Center operations: primary lead for the Protecting the Mission (PTM) safety program, building a robust volunteer program, and managing high-impact special projects and events. This role ensures that all volunteer and project-based initiatives are mission-aligned, safe, and operationally excellent.

Requirements

  • 3-5 years of experience in volunteer management, event planning, or program compliance.
  • Familiarity with The Salvation Army standards and policies.
  • High School diploma or its GED equivalency.
  • Strong interpersonal relationship skills.
  • Proven experience coordinating multiple projects.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office applications including Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Must have the ability to prioritize, organize, and complete tasks independently.
  • Requires strong attention to detail, accuracy, and time management.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Must handle security and crisis situations calmly and professionally.
  • Must be self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to maintain a self-directed schedule.
  • Must exercise good judgment, take initiative, and work collaboratively with others.
  • Requires sitting, standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, stretching, and manual dexterity.
  • Must be able to lift, push, or pull up to 20 pounds without assistance regularly and occasionally more with assistance.
  • Requires frequent verbal and written communication with staff, vendors, clients, and leadership.
  • Ability to deliver training, presentations, and clear operational direction.
  • Proficiency in modern communication and business technologies.
  • Ability to engage respectfully and effectively with diverse populations.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must participate in The Salvation Army’s Fleet Safety Program on an annual basis.
  • Will be required to pass a criminal history background check.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary authority for the Protecting the Mission (PTM) program, ensuring the Kroc Center remains a safe environment for children and vulnerable adults.
  • Draft and update safety protocols to mitigate organizational risk.
  • Review and update policies as needed and monitor adherence to PTM “Know Your Policies.”
  • Coordinate the screening process for all potential volunteers according to Kroc screening standards.
  • Ensure compliance with PTM training for new hires and facilitate annual refresher training for existing staff and volunteers.
  • Conduct comprehensive risk assessments of all center programs and implement corrective measures.
  • Evaluate incident reports to determine root causes and mandate staff training or policy changes.
  • Ensure all incidents or potential policy violations are reported timely and accurately.
  • Represent the department in management team meetings, providing strategic counsel on operational issues.
  • Formulate long-range recruitment and engagement strategies for volunteers.
  • Recruit, screen, and interview volunteers, ensuring a match between skills and Kroc Center requirements.
  • Develop, implement, and interpret departmental policies and procedures for the Kroc Center volunteer program.
  • Secure and maintain all volunteer records, including applications, liability releases, and hours.
  • Track PTM training and policies for volunteers.
  • Prepare annual reports documenting the volunteer program's contribution.
  • Cultivate a supportive environment and implement recognition activities to retain volunteers.
  • Lead the planning and execution of high-level community initiatives.
  • Make independent decisions regarding timeline, vendor selection, and resource allocation for special projects.
  • Coordinate assigned special events and supervise employee committees.
  • Serve as point person for events such as Kroctoberfest, Christmas Market, staff parties, etc.
  • Analyze financial reports to make strategic adjustments for fiscal solvency of special projects.
  • Manage the department budget for special events and monitor expenditures.
  • Develop strategies for cross-departmental coordination.
  • Consult with the Administrator/Corps Officer to align project goals with the Kroc Center’s mission.
  • Enforce the Code of Ethics and institutional standards.
  • Exercise discretion in handling sensitive or confidential organizational information.
  • Attend staff and management team meetings, providing updates on volunteer status, events, and PTM compliance.
  • Perform other duties and assignments as directed by the Corps Officer/Administrator.
