About The Position

Provide safe transportation to and from activities/appointments for residents as scheduled. Pickup and deliver items as directed to meet the needs of the community. Assist each resident on and off the vehicle at all times to ensure personal safety using proper and specified equipment and procedures. Operates mechanical lift as required for wheelchair bound patients. Responsible for daily inspection and maintenance of the community vehicle (gas, oil, coolant, air pressure, lights, etc.) and cleanliness of the interior and exterior to ensure vehicle is in good working condition and there are no hazards or safety issues. Follow all safety rules and safe practice when securing wheelchairs, oxygen tanks and miscellaneous resident equipment and bags are secured prior to transport. Keep appropriate records (i.e., mileage logs, repair logs, trips and expenses, etc.) utilizing the vehicle log. Report any incidents or accidents to the Executive Director immediately. Collect all required accident information and take pictures of vehicles. Identify transportation issues/concerns to the Transportation Director, Life Enrichment Director or Executive Director. Keep daily schedule of vehicle activity as directed. Identify and report any potential hazards or safety issues in the facility and correct as appropriate. Dispose of refuse and personal protective equipment in accordance with established sanitation procedures. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Be able to make independent decisions and follow instructions.
  • Deal tactfully with personnel, prospects, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the public.
  • Capable of working with ill, disabled, elderly, and emotionally upset people within the facility.
  • Communicate effectively in a manner that is sufficient for supervisors, team members, prospects, residents, and families.
  • Must be knowledgeable of housekeeping and sanitation principles.
  • Knowledge and ability in handling equipment and tools necessary to make minor repairs.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Must meet all applicable state and federal requirements for this position.
  • Compliance of all programs with state and federal regulations, including those imposed by the Department of Transportation (DOT).
  • Knowledge of all established safety procedures and precautions, including infection control, waste disposal and universal precautions when performing duties.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid and current drivers' license with appropriate endorsements and DMV record acceptable to facility's insurance company and within facility's policy.
  • Must be 25 years or older.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer experience in a healthcare or long-term care environment.
  • Prefer 12 months or more of driving experience.
