About The Position

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by vocational training in electricity, electronics, mechanics, traffic control system operations, and roadway lighting system operations, or an equivalent combination of relevant training, education, and experience.
• One year of experience and/or training in electronics, mechanical maintenance, traffic control system operations, and equipment operation.
• Within three months of assignment, maintain a valid State of Florida Class A Commercial Driver’s License with air brake endorsement.
• Within six months of assignment, maintain valid FDOT or IMSA Work Zone Safety certification.
• Within twelve months of assignment, possess and maintain IMSA Traffic Signal Technician Level I certification.
• Comfort working in active roadway environments, around moving traffic, and in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to operate aerial lift equipment at heights up to 55 feet, as well as crane trucks, backhoes, forklifts, and other specialized vehicles and equipment.
• Ability to perform hands-on work and manual labor in challenging outdoor conditions.
• Ability to prioritize assignments, meet deadlines, and work independently while following departmental policies, procedures, and safety standards.
• Comfort using Microsoft Office, job-related software, and standard office equipment for records, reports, data entry, and routine administrative tasks.
• Ability to communicate clearly and professionally verbally and in writing, and prepare correspondence, reports, and other documentation with minimal supervision.
• Strong organization, sound judgment, adaptability, dependability, and teamwork.
• Ability to build positive working relationships with supervisors, coworkers, contractors, and the public.
• Ability to perform the physical demands of the position, including frequent lifting of 10 to 25 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 100 pounds.

Responsibilities

• Assist with installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing traffic signals, roadway lighting, school zone warning devices, and related electrical systems.
• Assist with signal timing and programming, diagnose electrical issues, and replace damaged components.
• Inspect traffic signal installations and locate underground utilities.
• Perform preventative maintenance and respond to equipment malfunctions.
• Learn and use specialized tools, diagnostic equipment, aerial lift trucks, and other machinery while following established safety procedures.
• Maintain equipment and supplies, organize inventory, complete work orders and maintenance reports, and support general field operations.
• Participate in a rotational on-call program.
• Provide professional customer service to coworkers, contractors, and the public.
• Work before, during, or after emergencies as needed, potentially performing temporary duties outside the usual scope, location, or schedule.
