About The Position

Crown Technical Systems, a Flex Company, specializes in customized, turnkey power distribution and protection systems, including relay and control panels, medium voltage switchgear, and enclosures. The Test Engineer role is based in Fontana, California, and supports manufacturing projects involving relay panels, control buildings, and medium voltage switchgear. The role is responsible for fulfilling project testing requirements while meeting schedule requirements. Flex plans to spin off its Cloud and Power Infrastructure segment into Axiom, an independent publicly traded company, with the spin planned for Q1 2027. If the spin occurs, this role will support Axiom.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering preferred; experience may be substituted for education.
  • Prior hands-on experience performing AC/DC functional testing on protection relays, medium voltage switchgear, medium voltage breakers, and arc flash.
  • At least 2 to 4 years of related work experience.
  • Knowledge of testing and troubleshooting three-phase AC and DC power distribution circuits.
  • Ability to follow Crown/customer testing forms and IEEE guidelines when performing testing.
  • Detail-oriented, with excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain testing schedules in accordance with Crown project and production schedules, in partnership with Production Leaders and the Engineering Department.
  • Monitor testing status daily and gather feedback from test technicians.
  • Review project specifications and implement testing procedures that comply with project requirements.
  • Review project test plans against schematics with test technicians before submittal.
  • Maintain project test folders containing relevant test reports, drawings, and pictures.
  • Review and maintain the testing equipment list with Test Technicians.
  • Create and maintain test procedures, including testing forms.
  • Perform power testing of protective relay panels, medium voltage switchgear line-ups, test communication, and HMI components on relay panels; testing also includes panel boards, automatic transfer switches, fire alarm systems, air conditioning, and other power distribution components.
  • Lead problem-solving initiatives to analyze quality failures and drive quality improvements, including improving testing efficiency and reducing testing time.
  • Ensure team members follow testing standards and safety procedures, and promptly report and investigate quality failure incidents.
  • Work with the Lead Engineer and assist with other related project tasks.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
