Product Development Technician

Maybell Quantum IndustriesQuinte West, ON
Onsite

About The Position

Maybell Quantum is seeking a hands-on Product Development Technician to support the build, test, and iteration of their cryogenic systems and quantum hardware products. This role is crucial at the bench level of the product development lifecycle, involving the physical assembly, characterization, and validation of hardware. The technician will work closely with engineering, product, and quality teams to bring new products from prototype to a shippable, production-ready state. This position is ideal for individuals who thrive in a fast-paced startup environment, value meticulous hands-on work, and are eager to contribute to advanced hardware development.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience as a technician in a hardware development, manufacturing, or laboratory environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with precision mechanical assembly, including working with small fasteners, fluid/vacuum fittings, and sensitive electromechanical components.
  • Experience operating and interpreting results from standard lab and test equipment (multimeters, leak detectors, vacuum gauges, oscilloscopes, etc.).
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to workmanship quality.
  • Ability to read and work from engineering drawings, schematics, assembly procedures, and BOMs.
  • Clear and organized written communication skills for test data recording, build notes, and discrepancy reporting.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment where priorities evolve and ambiguity is part of the job.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with cryogenic systems, vacuum systems, or dilution refrigerators (even partial or adjacent experience like liquid nitrogen or liquid helium handling).
  • Familiarity with cleanroom or cleanroom-adjacent handling procedures for sensitive optical, electrical, or vacuum components.
  • Experience in scientific instrumentation, aerospace, semiconductor, or advanced manufacturing environments.
  • Exposure to RF/microwave connectors, cabling, and handling procedures.
  • Associate's degree or technical certification in a relevant field (Mechanical Technology, Electromechanical Technology, Engineering Technology, or similar). Equivalent hands-on experience is equally valued.

Responsibilities

  • Assemble and integrate cryogenic hardware prototypes, including next-generation dilution refrigerators and associated components.
  • Follow and contribute to work instructions, assembly procedures, and build travelers to ensure consistent, high-quality builds.
  • Perform precision mechanical assembly tasks, including torque-to-spec fastening, leak-tight plumbing connections, and careful handling of sensitive cryogenic and vacuum components.
  • Prepare and manage hardware kits and bill-of-materials (BOM) staging for build activities.
  • Execute functional and acceptance tests on assembled hardware prototypes.
  • Operate test equipment such as leak detectors, vacuum gauges, multimeters, oscilloscopes, and data acquisition systems.
  • Collect, record, and organize test data clearly and traceably, flagging anomalies or out-of-spec results to the engineering/product team.
  • Support cooldown and warm-up cycles on dilution refrigerator systems, monitoring system behavior and logging relevant parameters.
  • Provide hands-on feedback on design for assembly (DFA) and design for manufacturability (DFM), identifying practical build and test challenges.
  • Assist in root cause investigations of hardware failures or test escapes, participating in teardown and failure analysis.
  • Support the development and refinement of assembly procedures, test scripts, and inspection checklists.
  • Help identify and implement process improvements to enhance build efficiency, quality, or repeatability.
  • Work closely with mechanical engineers, cryogenic SMEs, and product leadership to execute build and test plans aligned with the product development roadmap.
  • Participate in design reviews, build readiness reviews, and production handoff discussions.
  • Collaborate with supply chain and operations to receive, inspect, and manage incoming hardware and consumables.
  • Support customer system installations and on-site commissioning activities as required.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and equity participation.
  • Comprehensive health, dental, and vision benefits.
  • A collaborative, transparent, and high-performance team culture.
  • Direct exposure to world-class cryogenic engineering and quantum hardware development.
  • Opportunity to grow with a rapidly scaling company from the ground floor.
