About The Position

The SBA Portfolio Team Lead will manage a team of loan officers, overseeing their duties and functions, and managing the loan process to determine an efficient work plan. This role involves managing existing loan referral sources, conducting quality interviews with applicants, and directing and organizing the employees within the team. The position requires strong communication skills, the ability to discuss complex financial scenarios, and the supervision and monitoring of staff to ensure successful operations and proper customer service. The Team Lead must ensure compliance with the Bank's established loan policies and procedures, as well as SBA guidelines, procedures, and eligibility requirements. Additionally, compliance with regulatory requirements including Bank Secrecy Act – Anti Money Laundering, OFAC, USA Patriot Act, Privacy Act, and Community Reinvestment Act is essential. The role involves meeting with customers, responding to inquiries, and training Bank personnel on changes in SBA guidelines. Participation in SBA & NAGGL meetings and conferences, as well as reviewing files for auditors, is expected. The Team Lead will work with LPO Managers in screening loans, obtaining documents, and complying with SBA guidelines. Key responsibilities include pre-screening customers, collecting and verifying all necessary SBA documents, ordering appraisals and Phase I reports, underwriting loans, presenting loans for approval, preparing loan packages for SBA submission, and monitoring funded loans. The role also involves following up on required covenants, maintaining contact with referral sources for business development, and participating in community services to enhance the Bank's CRA activities and image.

Requirements

  • Minimum Education Level: 4 years- college degree
  • Minimum Years of Experience: 5 years
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to communicate effectively and project a professional image when giving and taking information in writing, in person, and over the phone
  • Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or customer complaints
  • Excellent analytical skills including the ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw conclusions
  • Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables
  • Ability to communicate effectively with colleagues
  • Functional PC skills and ability to learn specific programs used by the department (working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel)
  • Ability to follow directions
  • Detail oriented and ability to be precise in information inputting
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but generally uninvolved written or oral instructions that may involve multiple steps
  • Ability to handle routine and repetitive work in standardized situations
  • Good communication skills and the ability to speak in the terms about the complex financial scenarios.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of loan officers on their duty and function.
  • Manage loan process and determine efficient work plan.
  • Manage existing loan referral source and perform quality interview with applicants from the existing referral source.
  • Direct and organize the employees under the team.
  • Supervise and monitor staff for successful operations and proper customer service.
  • Comply with the Bank’s established loan policies and procedures.
  • Comply with SBA guidelines, procedures, and eligibility requirements.
  • Comply with regulatory requirements including Bank Secrecy Act – Anti Money Laundering, OFAC, USA Patriot Act, Privacy Act, and Community Reinvestment Act.
  • Meet with customers and respond to their inquiries based on the guidelines established by the Bank and the SBA.
  • Train and educate Bank personnel in changes in SBA guidelines and eligibility requirements.
  • Participate in SBA & NAGGL meetings and conferences.
  • Reviewing files in preparation for external, internal, OCC and SBA auditors.
  • Work with LPO Managers in screening loans, obtaining documents, and complying with SBA guidelines.
  • Pre-screen all customers by interviewing, reviewing credit history, compiling initial cash flows, and SBA eligibility prior to any loan commitment.
  • Collect all required documents (tax returns, financial information, SBA documents, etc.) from the applicants and make sure they are within the time frame allotted by SBA.
  • Verify all necessary documents required by SBA.
  • Order appraisal and Phase I reports for property purchase loans (if necessary).
  • Begin underwriting process once all required documents are received.
  • Present the loan to the manager for approval; if the loan amount exceeds the delegated lending limit, present the loan to the Management Loan Committee for approval.
  • Prepare the loan package to be submitted to the SBA (with all documents properly signed and dated) once the loan is approved.
  • Properly monitor the loan and follow up when necessary once the loan process is complete and loan has been funded.
  • Follow up on all required covenants such as collection of annual tax returns.
  • Consistently keep in touch with referral sources to expand the opportunity for business development.
  • Participate in community services to enhance the Bank’s CRA activities and to improve bank’s image.
