About The Position

This position is for a Special Education Paraeducator to serve Dayton Elementary for the 2026-2027 school year. The role involves supporting and assisting students with disabilities under the guidance of a Special Education Teacher. Responsibilities include assisting with lesson preparation, providing one-on-one and small group instruction, classroom management, student observation and assessment, and communication with parents and staff. The position is 37.5 hours per week on a school year schedule, with a start date in August 2026. Regular attendance is crucial for consistency and a positive learning environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Must meet one of the following educational requirements: Associate's Degree (official transcripts required prior to start date if offered a position) OR 48 sem./72 quarter credits from an accredited college or university (official transcripts required prior to start date if offered a position) ; OR Passing score of 455 on the ParaPro Assessment; OR Passing score of 220 on the Pearson Paraprofessional Assessment; OR 65% on The Master Teacher, Inc. Paraeducator Online Training Program.
  • Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
  • Within three years of employment meet Washington State Core Competencies for paraeducators as defined in WAC 392-172A-02090 (f).

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Special Education Teacher, consistent with IEP or IFSP goals, in lesson plan preparation; one-on-one & small group instruction; classroom management; student observation & assessment; communication with parents and staff, in a variety of school settings.
  • Supervise students.
  • Collect data and report student progress.
  • Maintain accurate data collection records.
  • Communicate with staff and parents as instructed by the Special Education Teacher.
  • Provide positive behavior management support, consistent with the IEP or IFSP.
  • Attend to the physical needs of students, including moving and positioning students & assisting with personal hygiene needs.
  • Participate in staff meetings, inservice programs, workshops and seminars.
  • Participate as a member of the education team.
  • May attend parent conferences.
  • Maintain regular attendance to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the position.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Benefits

  • The full salary range for this position is $21.27 - $26.31 per hour.
