About The Position
This is a remote interpreter position supporting communication between Somali and English speakers. The interpreter must process information quickly and accurately, maintain a professional manner, and work in a quiet and secure home-office environment. Useful tools include note pads and writing utensils, glossaries, and dictionaries. The role includes ongoing training and competency opportunities. Payment is made monthly at a per-minute rate. Depending on the candidate’s location, language testing, a background check, and/or a drug screen may be required.
Requirements
- Fluency in English and Somali.
- Proficiency at a bilingual or native level in English and the target language.
- Excellent listening, retention, and note-taking skills.
- Ability to process information quickly and accurately in a professional manner.
- Ability to follow established interpretation protocol without omissions or additions.
- Computer or laptop running Windows 10 or higher.
- USB wired headset.
- Steady wired internet connection.
- A quiet and secure home-office environment.
Nice To Haves
- At least one year of interpretation experience is preferred.
- Note pads and writing utensils, glossaries, and dictionaries are useful tools.
Responsibilities
- Interpret between Somali and English speakers.
- Render concepts and meanings accurately according to established interpretation protocol, avoiding omissions or additions.
- Use strong listening, retention, and note-taking skills to maintain accuracy.
- Explain cultural concepts when needed to avoid miscommunication, with permission or at the client’s request.
- Maintain a quiet and secure work environment.
