About The Position

Emory Healthcare is seeking a capable Operating Room Registered Nurse / OR / RN who is a capable clinician with broad experience in patient care and a sound understanding of the care of a particular patient population. This role involves identifying appropriate standards of care, safely providing patient care, and supporting the unit's and hospital's Vision Alignment Matrix. The nurse will routinely use acquired knowledge, theory, research, and experience to respond to changes in clinical situations and apply the Synergy Model for Care to personalize care for each patient/family. Responsibilities include serving as a preceptor and resource to colleagues, advocating for patients/families, maintaining professional behavior, assessing assigned patients, reviewing medical history, interviewing patients and families, determining appropriate nursing interventions, and revising plans of care as needed. The nurse will administer direct nursing care, evaluate patient responses, educate patients and families on self-care and plan of care, mobilize necessary equipment and resources, and collaborate with the manager for professional development. Participation in professional activities, attending educational in-services, documenting patient care, collaborating with the healthcare team, attending staff meetings, providing clinical guidance to students and ancillary staff, demonstrating competency in new equipment and procedures, serving on committees, and performing other related duties are also expected.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • 5 years of recent and relevant nursing experience in specialty area.
  • Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the state of Georgia.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS, NRP, FHM (relevant to role) required.
  • Professional certification in at least 1 relevant specialty area required.
  • Completion of professional certification in relevant specialty area required within 1 year of employment with ESP.

  • 2.5 years of recent and relevant nursing experience in specialty area.

Responsibilities

  • Identifies appropriate standards of care common to the patient population and safely provides patient care while supporting the unit's and hospital's Vision Alignment Matrix.
  • Routinely uses acquired knowledge, theory, research, and experience to respond to changes in clinical situations.
  • Applies the Synergy Model for Care in practice and uses this knowledge to personalize care for each patient/family.
  • Serves as a preceptor and resource to colleagues (such as less experienced nurses) and strong advocate for patients/families.
  • Maintains courteous and professional behavior at all times.
  • Assesses assigned patients; reviews medical history, admitting diagnosis, physician's orders, nursing history, and evaluation of diagnostic data.
  • Interviews patient and family to determine patient needs; communicates these to interdisciplinary health care team members as appropriate.
  • Determines appropriate nursing interventions for identified problems, symptoms, behavioral changes.
  • Identifies appropriate standards of care and/or collaborative clinical pathways to guide the plan of care; revises as appropriate.
  • Administers direct nursing care to assigned patients based on priorities and timeframes.
  • Evaluates patients' responses to delivery of nursing care and patient education for self-care.
  • Keeps patients and family up to date on progress.
  • Develops, conducts and evaluates patient and family education in discussing plan of care.
  • Teaches family and patient to perform specific procedures; documents activities.
  • Explains rational and/or principles behind the physiology or consequences of treatments when required.
  • Determines and mobilizes equipment and resources necessary for successful patient care; seeks assistance in completing nursing interventions.
  • Works with manager to formulate plan for professional development.
  • Attends educational in-services as appropriate.
  • Participates in professional activities and organizations to maintain knowledge of current trends, practices, and developments.
  • Following established charting procedures, documents all aspects of patient care to show progress or changes in patient's condition.
  • Collaborates with members of the health care team to determine patient needs and needs of significant others in planning the treatment.
  • Attends scheduled staff meetings.
  • Provides clinical guidance to students and ancillary staff.
  • Demonstrates competency in all new equipment and procedures.
  • Serves on committees.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
