About The Position

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university.
• South Carolina state certification in the field of assignment; high school interventionists must be certified in Reading, Literacy Teacher, or Secondary English.
• Deep understanding of research-based and evidence-based practices for teaching reading and assessing student progress toward achievement benchmarks.
• Ability to perform each essential duty satisfactorily; reasonable accommodations may be made for individuals with disabilities.
• Ability to meet the physical demands of the role, including frequently lifting or moving up to 40 pounds; standing, reaching, walking, sitting, stooping or kneeling, and crouching or crawling; sitting and standing for extended periods; and using manual dexterity for telephone use and data entry.
• Vision sufficient to read screens and printed materials, with or without vision aids, and to meet close, distance, color, peripheral, depth-perception, and focusing requirements.
• Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels, including on the telephone, and to speak audibly and clearly in person and on the telephone.
• Other professional and personal qualifications deemed necessary for acceptable fulfillment of assigned responsibilities.

Responsibilities

• Implement the assigned program of study with fidelity and deliver focused reading intervention instruction.
• Use appropriate supplemental intervention materials to provide Tier II or III literacy support.
• Establish and communicate clear objectives for learning activities.
• Administer and interpret assessment data to determine progress and identify students needing supplemental or intensive intervention.
• Implement effective strategies for student learning and use relevant technology to support instruction.
• Prepare the classroom for activities and instruct and monitor students in the use of learning materials and equipment.
• Provide for the care and protection of school property.
• Assign and grade class work, homework, tests, and assignments as appropriate.
• Assess achievement through screening, progress monitoring, diagnostic measures, and outcome measures.
• Monitor and encourage individual student progress, review data, make instructional decisions to address student weaknesses, and work with staff to help students solve learning problems.
• Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development, and communicate progress and success.
• Update records accurately and completely as required by law and district policies.
• Maintain ongoing communication with staff regarding student performance and learning needs.
• Participate in training and implementation of reading programs and instructional strategies.
• Manage student behavior, establish classroom rules and procedures, and enforce classroom and school discipline.
• Participate in department, school, and district meetings and professional development activities as appropriate.
• Stay current with developments in reading and literacy research as initiated by the school district.
• Foster and maintain effective communication with parents and guardians.
• Perform other tasks and responsibilities assigned by the Principal or another appropriate administrator.
