About The Position

The Sisters of Charity Foundation of Cleveland, a ministry of the Sisters of Charity Health System, is recruiting for a full-time Program Officer. Based on the vision of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine, the Foundation is committed to addressing the needs of the poor and underserved by understanding the root causes of poverty, nurturing the growth of healthy communities, emphasizing youth and family, and measuring outcomes of these efforts. The Program Officer is responsible for working with the President and other staff to define and develop program areas, provide technical assistance to applicants and grantees, review grant applications, provide staff reviews for the Board of Directors and its Distribution Committee, and monitor existing grants. In addition, the Program Officer is responsible for working with the President on the oversight, planning, and implementation of foundation-led initiatives, strategic collaborations, and responsive efforts as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in management or related field required
  • Minimum of five (5) years of foundation or related experience
  • Mission oriented and committed to the philosophy and values of the Sisters of Charity of St. Augustine and the mission and guiding principles of the Foundation
  • Able to collaborate and work effectively with a variety of individuals and organizations and manage multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Able to operate with a high level of independence, possess excellent written and oral communication skills, and demonstrate strong organizational, analytical, and computer skills
  • Possess the ability to establish relationships with community organizations; work with a team of people in an open, honest, positive, and mutually supportive manner; and be capable of representing the Foundation and its programs with a high level of enthusiasm, professionalism, integrity and commitment
  • Have strong consensus building and program implementation experience

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a working knowledge of health, education, and social service issues that affect the geographic area served by the Foundation with specific emphasis on assigned areas of responsibility
  • Serve as primary and/or secondary researcher and program officer for strategic collaborations and/or foundation-led initiatives, as assigned
  • Assist in identifying gaps, defining areas appropriate for the Foundation to address, establishing linkages with related efforts, and developing priorities
  • Review Good Samaritan and responsive proposals, determine funding recommendations in conjunction with other staff, and make presentations to the appropriate staff, committees and/or Board of Directors, as assigned
  • Review grant activities with respect to the foundation’s priorities and specific program areas and provide feedback to grantees to foster optimal achievement of project goals
  • Develop mechanisms to communicate project successes and/or challenges
  • Develop expertise in specific program areas in order to foster better grantmaking
  • In conjunction with program team, determine needs of current grantees, respond to requests for technical assistance, and provide guidance and technical assistance as needed
  • Work cooperatively with Grants Manager to oversee grant activities
  • Prepare and discuss terms of the Memorandum of Agreement with grantees including the budget, disbursements, and reporting schedules
  • Work collaboratively with the Grants Manager to monitor grantee compliance with the legal agreement
  • Review budget change requests, make recommendations, and prepare responses in conjunction with the Grants Manager
  • Oversee, approve and document minor or immaterial changes in the Grant Agreement terms and work with the President on other change requests
  • Implement program and process changes resulting from lessons learned
  • Assist in the preparation of communications related materials such as newsletters, guideline booklets, and other publications, as assigned
  • Pursue a continuing program of professional development
  • Perform other duties as assigned
