About The Position

Emory University is seeking an Assistant Professor to serve as a full-time psychologist in the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences at Emory University in the School of Medicine. This role will focus on clinical research related to trauma in medical settings, moral injury, suicide, and chronic pain, involving both EHVP and VA funded studies. The position includes implementing research protocols, serving as a therapist and assessor, and contributing to data analysis and publication. The psychologist will work with an interdisciplinary team at EHVP to provide clinical services, conduct research, and supervise trainees. EHVP offers clinical services to post-9/11 veterans and service members through the Warrior Care Network, providing evidence-based treatments for PTSD, depression, anxiety, SUD, and TBI within an intensive outpatient program. The role also offers opportunities for research in areas such as rTMS, TDCS, biomarkers, and psychophysiological paradigms, with access to extensive datasets for analysis and publication. Ideal candidates will have training and experience in evidence-based therapy, with a favorable view towards experience in PTSD clinical research, though training will be provided. Responsibilities encompass academic leadership, teaching, mentoring, research, publications, clinical practice, citizenship, and administrative duties, subject to annual discussions with program leadership.

Requirements

  • PhD or PsyD in Clinical or Counseling Psychology
  • Licensed or license eligible in Georgia
  • Experience working with veterans.
  • Experience with patients with PTSD, TBI, SUD, anxiety, and depression
  • Publications
  • Evidence of academic achievement
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English
  • Experience working within a multidisciplinary care team

  • Experience in clinical research, exposure therapy, treatment of PTSD and associated comorbidities, and/or working with veterans, interest in clinical research.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and management in supporting the missions and goals of the Department and Service Line in education, research, patient care, and service.
  • Provide clinical supervision to psychology and social work trainees and to psychiatric residents; support and facilitate the educational programs of the Department, School of Medicine, and University.
  • Advise students, staff, and junior faculty by spending time and guiding individuals regarding academic, curricular and career matters.
  • Conduct work to create and add to knowledge. Dissemination and peer review are critical to research productivity.
  • Attain and manage funds appropriately to sustain research endeavors.
  • Publications that may focus on an array of topics of interest to the candidate including psychedelic therapy, PTSD risk and treatment response, translational science, and best practices in the care of veterans.
  • Provide excellent and appropriate patient care at all clinical/hospital sites while ensuring compliance with all policies and regulations on patient care and billing.
  • Adhere to clinical practice obligations for revenue generation in the provision of care.
  • Participate in quality improvement endeavors.
  • Serve as a role model for others.
  • Provide academic and professional expertise to serve the Department, profession, community, nation, and the world.
  • Participate on committees for the University, WCN, and Affiliate Institutions.
  • Ensure continuing professional development.
  • Complete all administrative requirements in accordance with the needs of the Department and School of Medicine. This may include completing forms and information, compliance paperwork, performance management tools for staff, authoring letters and developing other communication, and completing service assignments.
  • Supporting recruitment efforts.
