About The Position

The Criminal Justice Department seeks a dynamic and engaged educator for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position beginning in Fall 2027. This faculty member specializes in Security Studies will possess the demonstrated ability to teach courses in homeland security, terrorism, and emergency management. The successful candidate will contribute to a vibrant academic community by teaching a range of foundational undergraduate courses such as criminal justice ethics, criminal law, statistics, research methods, theory, policing, courts, corrections, and global crime and justice, as well as courses within the graduate program. The ideal candidate will bring a commitment to student success, interdisciplinary collaboration, and innovative approaches to teaching, learning, and mentoring. Requirements

  • PhD in criminal justice or closely related field, or ABD with doctorate conferred by August 2027.
  • Experience in and the demonstrated ability to teach in areas of Security Studies, including Homeland Security, Terrorism, and Emergency Management.
  • Experience in and the demonstrated ability to teach a variety of core courses within the undergraduate program such as criminal justice ethics, criminal law, statistics, theories, research methods, policing, courts, corrections and global crime and justice, as well as the graduate program in criminal justice.
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience at the college/university level.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience teaching face-to-face, hybrid, and online courses.
  • Experience in distance learning and instructional technologies.
  • Experience serving as role a model and mentor for students from a variety of backgrounds and experiences.
  • Evidence of scholarly research in Security Management and/or Criminal Justice issues.
  • Candidates should present documented activities in appropriately aligned teaching, scholarship/research, and service, including community-based endeavors.

Responsibilities

  • Teaching, advising, scholarship and contributions to continuously improve the department and university.
  • Teaching a range of foundational undergraduate courses such as criminal justice ethics, criminal law, statistics, research methods, theory, policing, courts, corrections, and global crime and justice.
  • Teaching courses within the graduate program.
  • Teaching courses in homeland security, terrorism, and emergency management.
