About The Position

The Materials Supervisor is responsible for the daily management and leadership of the warehouse, shipping and receiving, and transportation areas of the operation. This leader will play a pivotal part in ensuring optimal inventory levels and turns, maintaining quality assurance on inbound materials, ensuring safe and timely transportation and deliveries, and sustaining efficient warehouse operations. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams in customer service, supply chain, and production. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on material handling and material quality assurance experience; with 80% of time spent hands-on in the warehouse, and 20% of time spent on planning, reporting, or management tasks. This role has direct reports that include delivery drivers and material handlers. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager at the assigned location.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of Materials or Warehouse Supervisor experience with a focus on inventory control, material handling, material quality, and transportation.
  • Strong hands-on leadership skills in material handling.
  • Strong knowledge of DOT compliance and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Ability to lead through influence with other cross functional leaders.
  • Basic skillset in Microsoft office – Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Previous experience utilizing ERP/MRP systems for material handling.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and speaking the English language is required.

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree or higher in supply chain management, business, economics, or analytics.
  • APICS CSCP, APICS CPIM are a plus.
  • OSHA 10 Certification a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Implement and maintain inbound material quality inspection processes in partnership with a Quality Engineer to ensure all inbound raw materials or purchased components meet the expected quality standards.
  • Supervise material handlers performing duties such as loading and unloading trucks, packing finished goods, unpackaging inbound materials, managing inventory locations, and operating forklifts or pallet jacks.
  • Ensure material handling equipment is operated in adherence to company training and safety requirements.
  • Publish daily and weekly shipment priorities to ensure material handlers stage truck loads accurately and timely to meet or exceed 98.5% on time and complete deliveries.
  • Stage raw materials at the end of each shift for production the following day based on information provided by Production Planning.
  • Maintain accurate inventory locations, inventory counts, and report adjustments in a timely manner.
  • Review and approve all packing lists for accuracy to initiate invoicing process for outbound deliveries upon the trucks leaving the dock.
  • Ensure all finished goods loaded onto outbound delivery trucks meet or exceed packaging and damage mitigation standards. Maintain inspections to document, train, and verify such standards.
  • Operate material handling equipment as part of the team to ensure warehouse operations serve both internal and external customers efficiently.
  • Verify inbound material quantities unloaded match purchase order requirements and report any discrepancies immediately to the purchasing team.
  • Ensure alignment with corporate cycle counting strategies that achieve 96% or better inventory accuracy.
  • Lead physical inventory or cycle counts as directed by plant leadership and in partnership with the purchasing and planning teams.
  • Ensure world class inventory control systems that include numerical locations, labels, and standard operating procedures.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, and clean warehouse where 5S and lean standards are culturized and evident at all times.
  • Lead and develop material handling team with specific plans/goals for each team member and routine feedback.
  • Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures.
  • Utilize Voice of Customer feedback to enhance the team’s performance.
  • Provide support and mentorship to team members.
  • Complete outbound quality documentation/photos and compile weekly metrics for material packaging or handling defects. Use the data to drive corrective actions within the team.
  • Supervise route delivery drivers in DOT or non-DOT roles.
  • Ensure DOT Compliance, as applicable, for drivers, trucks, and trailers, including driver requirements and equipment maintenance requirements.
  • Serve as emergency route driver if needed.
