About The Position

The IRMC Physician Group is seeking a Full Time Office Assistant for their Richland Office - Primary Care location. This role involves greeting patients, managing registrations, handling payments, scheduling appointments, and maintaining a clean and organized front desk area. The assistant will also be responsible for insurance verification, managing messages, and adhering to HIPAA and confidentiality rules. Occasional travel to other IPG offices may be required.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • Basic understanding of medical terms and abbreviations.
  • Understanding of confidentiality laws governing the patient/physician relationship.
  • Ability to make a great first impression and sustain it.
  • Ability to answer multilane telephones.
  • Ability to operate automated systems, computers, and fax machines.
  • Ability to uphold ICARE core values.

Nice To Haves

  • 2 years of medical office or customer service experience preferred.
  • Completion of a recognized medical secretarial program preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and register incoming patients and visitors.
  • Retrieve, review, and process patient registration forms.
  • Collect, scan, and update patient personal and financial information.
  • Perform insurance verification and eligibility checks.
  • Process insurance eligibility alerts.
  • Collect patient payments and provide receipts.
  • Retrieve messages from answering service/voicemail.
  • Answer telephone and direct calls to the appropriate party.
  • Work Cerner message center pools and complete messages.
  • Schedule patient appointments according to provider protocol.
  • Maintain logs for copays, petty cash, and receipts.
  • Forward medical record requests to Health Information Management.
  • Monitor patient reminder system for cancellations, reschedules, and no-shows.
  • Follow HIPAA, Confidentiality, and Security rules.
  • Accept and sign for mail parcels and deliveries.
  • Practice sterile techniques and universal precautions when accepting specimens.
  • Provide clerical supply needs to lead or manager.
  • Maintain an orderly, neat, and clean front desk area and waiting room.
  • Retrieve faxes from the fax machine.
  • Obtain prior authorizations as required by patient insurance policy.
  • Travel to other IPG offices when needed to cover front office.
  • Perform other tasks as requested.
