About The Position

The Hospital Paramedic works under Prisma Health Ambulance Service with daily direction from the on-duty charge nurse and attending Physician. This role involves assessing and treating patients according to clinical operating guidelines, serving as a member of the healthcare team through active communication, documentation, feedback, and assistance. The paramedic is responsible for patient safety, attending required meetings and in-services, contributing to personal and departmental growth, and maintaining good working relationships with patients, visitors, physicians, co-workers, and other hospital staff. Competence with the charting system is also required. All team members are expected to be knowledgeable and compliant with Prisma Health's purpose: Inspire health. Serve with compassion. Requirements

  • Education: Certification Program
  • Experience: One (1) year of experience as a field paramedic with an EMS agency and/or clinical experience in a hospital.
  • Required Certifications, Registrations, Licenses: Paramedic, State and National Registry Certified
  • Knowledge and skills for State Medical Board Approved Medications for Credentialed Paramedics
  • Knowledge and skills for State Medical Board Approved Skills for Credentialed Paramedics

Responsibilities

  • Collects data and completes patient's orders utilizing appropriate area and/or age specific standards/policies and tools.
  • Completes appropriate forms.
  • Assesses and recognizes subtle or actual changes in patients' status and patient response to intervention.
  • Identifies patient priorities for patient plan of care and validates these priorities with the healthcare team members and documents appropriately.
  • Performs specific tasks based on organizational, departmental and/or unit policies and procedures within the Paramedic scope of practice.
  • Assumes responsibility for patient safety by maintaining a safe environment to include awareness of safety procedures, protocols and adherence to patient care standards.
  • Provides care based on patient and unit priorities, coordinating and organizing tasks as appropriate, utilizing known resources internal and external to the unit.
  • Utilizes appropriate technology in daily practice (EHR, Pyxis, Telemetry, emergency equipment).
  • Identifies/assesses patient/family learning needs.
  • Participates in continuous quality improvement (CQI) initiatives.
  • Attends meetings and in services as required by departmental policy.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
