About The Position

Requirements

• At least 2 years of orthopedic Physician Assistant experience.
• Successful completion of an accredited graduate-level Physician Assistant program (master’s degree).
• Current Physician Assistant certification through the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
• Current valid license for Physician Assistant practice and eligibility for Massachusetts licensure.
• Current DEA registration and Massachusetts Controlled Substance Registration.
• Complete required continuing medical education according to national and state regulations for Physician Assistants.
• Qualified in basic and advanced cardiac life support standards established by the American Heart Association.
• Strong clinical judgment and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
• Flexibility to work in a high-acuity, fast-paced inpatient environment.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Problem-solving and conflict-resolution abilities.
• Commitment to professionalism, teamwork, and patient-centered care.

Responsibilities

• Admit patients from the Emergency Department, outpatient clinics, and direct admissions.
• Complete admission histories, physical examinations, documentation, and orders.
• Provide acute postoperative management and symptom control.
• Manage non-operative orthopedic patients, including daily assessments, documentation, and billing.
• Diagnose and treat new medical conditions that arise during hospitalization.
• Order and interpret laboratory tests, diagnostic imaging, and procedures.
• Prescribe medications and implement treatment plans.
• Respond to urgent and emergent patient care needs.
• Collaborate with surgeons, consulting services, nursing staff, case managers, occupational therapists, physical therapists, and other healthcare professionals.
• Coordinate multidisciplinary care and facilitate consultations and communication among members of the care team.
• Support efficient patient throughput and high-quality clinical outcomes.
• Coordinate discharge planning and transitions of care with consulting services, case management, therapy teams, primary care and referring physicians, home care and infusion providers, visiting nurse associations, and rehabilitation and skilled nursing facilities.
• Educate patients and families about diagnoses, treatment plans, postoperative expectations, and recovery goals.
• Reinforce surgeon-directed postoperative care plans and participate in interdisciplinary and family meetings.
• Complete progress notes, clinical encounter documentation, medical records, discharge summaries, and related documentation accurately and promptly.
