Machine Operator - 3rd shift

About The Position
The Machine Operator is responsible for activities associated with running converting machines, including setup, operation, cleanup, and recommending operational improvements. The role works a third-shift schedule of 11:30 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., Sunday through Thursday, with overtime as needed, and reports to the Converting Supervisor. The operator sets up and runs machine sections, monitors product and print quality, maximizes equipment utilization, assists and trains coworkers, cross-trains on other machines, completes production and quality reports, and helps maintain equipment. The position also handles printing dies and load tags, follows production schedules and factory instructions, and complies with safety, housekeeping, and other company policies. Additional duties may be assigned by management. The work involves regular exposure to moving mechanical parts and frequent exposure to wet or humid conditions. Occasional exposures include high or precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, and vibration; noise is usually loud. The employee regularly stands, walks, talks or hears, and lifts or moves up to 50 pounds.
Requirements
- Previous experience in a manufacturing environment is desired.
- Ability to read and follow instructions on factory masters.
- Ability to read a tape measure quickly and accurately.
- Ability to calculate percentages, measurements, volume, and rate, and apply high-school mathematics concepts.
- Ability to use common-sense reasoning to follow written, oral, or graphic instructions and address problems involving concrete variables in standardized situations.
- Working knowledge of equipment design and capabilities, product layouts and production specifications, product quality specifications, and quality standards.
- May be required to maintain a current Lift Truck Operator License.
- Ability to perform the physical demands of the role, including regularly lifting or moving up to 50 pounds.

- Previous experience in a packaging environment is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Set up rails, print, and die-cut sections on converting machines according to proper setup techniques.
- Inspect dies before and after runs and ensure necessary repairs are made; verify cutting-die bolts are present and secure.
- Monitor box quality, including liner condition, warp, size, and print.
- Operate machinery at available capacity and speed to maximize equipment utilization.
- Train and assist the First Helper, Flexo Stacker, and Bundlers with machine duties.
- Cross-train on other machines and switch duties with other operators as needed.
- Complete required reports accurately and on time, including production, machine operational status, safety, and quality data.
- Submit maintenance work orders for needed repairs and proactively maintain equipment.
- Follow the production schedule and recommend changes to optimize cost, quality, and service goals; report unusual scheduling issues to the Supervisor.
- Follow company policies and procedures, including safety and housekeeping requirements.
- Read and follow instructions on factory masters.
- Take printing dies to press department machines and retrieve and return them to the die room when orders are complete.
- Wash dirty printing dies, remove tape, band type, inspect incoming dies for repairs, and glue and seal loose dies returned from machines.
- Replace printing dies in the proper sequence on the printing die rack.
- Assist the Die Mounter in pulling load tags, and sort and file load tags.
- Perform additional duties assigned by management.
