Requirements

• Active Pharmacist license in the state of practice within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and dispense medications and evaluate pharmacy-service functions.
• Collect data; report adverse drug reactions; conduct drug utilization evaluations and quality assurance audits; and manage inventory.
• Interpret, process, and monitor provider medication orders for contraindications, interactions, allergies, and appropriateness.
• Monitor medication therapy by reviewing medication regimens, medical problems, laboratory data, and special procedures, and coordinating with other clinicians involved in patient care.
• Provide timely medication information to providers and other healthcare professionals.
• Counsel patients on proper medication use, desired effects, and potential adverse effects.
• Mentor students, interns, technicians, and others in career planning and professional development.
• Coordinate and oversee workflow with pharmacists, residents, pharmacy technicians, and pharmacy students.
• Maintain knowledge of professional standards, regulatory and licensing policies, pharmacy laws, and organizational policies and procedures.
• Communicate issues and occurrences through established lines of authority and help identify ways to resolve variances or unacceptable outcomes.
• Provide clinical oncology pharmacy support to Avera Cancer Institute sites in South Dakota, remotely from Sioux Falls, with occasional travel to Yankton, Pierre, Mitchell, and Aberdeen.
• Support staff education, implementation of updated treatment protocols, and development of supportive-care pathways.
