About The Position

Requirements

• Licensed to practice as a Certified Nurse Practitioner in South Dakota, as outlined by the appropriate regulating board.
• Certified by ANCC or ANA as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
• Current and valid DEA licensure.
• Ability to provide direct patient care to offenders.
• Skill in office-based procedures.

• Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to read and comprehend English and communicate fluently in English verbally and in writing.
• Ability to create accessible documents and technical content that follow plain-language guidelines and consider accessibility.
• Successfully complete a written and practical self-defense exam.
• Successfully complete CPR to AHA guidelines, including the practical, hands-on portion and written exam.
• Possess the physical ability to complete the practical self-defense exam, including lifting arms overhead and kicking to waist height; stabilizing another person for a controlled takedown; delivering blows with arms, palms, shins, and feet; withstanding slow-speed or safety-bag impact from strikes or blows; rotating the body 90 degrees with feet planted for a kick or defensive tactic; and repeatedly getting down on one or both knees and standing up.
• Complete tuberculosis screening upon hire.
• Successful completion of a background investigation, abuse and neglect screening, and drug screening is required for employment.
• Verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and complete Form I-9; the State of South Dakota uses E-Verify upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Provide psychiatric services, psychosocial and physical assessments, treatment plans, and manage patient care.
• Work as a member of the multidisciplinary team; provide medical providers with mental health consultations as needed and collaborate with them as needed.
• Establish diagnoses, order and interpret studies, perform and monitor therapeutic procedures, and assess or manage follow-up care.
• Prescribe and regulate medications according to patients' healthcare needs.
• Record and document health appraisal data accurately and promptly to maintain or coordinate required services.
• Communicate findings from mental healthcare assessments and diagnostic tests to patients, physicians, and other healthcare providers in a timely manner and in accordance with DOC policy and clinical standards.
• Develop, provide, and systematically reevaluate patients' treatment plans.
• Make appropriate referrals when needed services are outside the scope of DOC Clinical Services for Behavioral Health.
• Provide assessment, consultation, and brief intervention for psychological or psychiatric problems and disorders.
• Document patient encounters, including progress notes, assessment and diagnostic information, and treatment planning, as outlined in DOC policy and clinical standards.
• Maintain NP registration and licensure as required by South Dakota law.
• Know, understand, and ensure adherence to organizational policies concerning patients' rights to confidential care and HIPAA.
• Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.
