About The Position

Sanford Health is hiring a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant for Interventional Radiology. The primary role is to perform interventional radiology procedures under the supervision of an IR Radiologist, including paracentesis, thoracentesis, thyroid biopsies, chest tube placement and removal, and other tube checks. The position also includes inpatient rounding on IR patients who require post-procedure follow-up. The Physician Assistant practices in collaboration with physicians and other care team members. Responsibilities include evaluating, diagnosing, and managing health concerns across the lifespan; providing preventive services; and coordinating care to promote optimal health outcomes. The role also involves performing patient assessments, managing acute and chronic conditions within scope of practice, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing treatments, educating patients and families, documenting care, and participating in quality and safety improvement activities.

Requirements

Completion of a Physician Assistant program accredited by ARC-PA or an equivalent accrediting program accepted by the state licensing board.
Current licensure as a Physician Assistant in each state of practice.
Current Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) permit to prescribe controlled substances in each state of practice.
State Controlled Substance License, if required by the state.
Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
Meet applicable privileging and credentialing requirements, which supersede this job description where requirements or scope of practice differ.

Responsibilities

Perform interventional radiology procedures under the supervision of an IR Radiologist, including paracentesis, thoracentesis, thyroid biopsies, chest tube placement and removal, and other tube checks.
Round on inpatients requiring post-procedure follow-up.
Perform patient assessments, including medical histories and physical examinations.
Diagnose and manage acute and chronic conditions within scope of practice.
Order, review, and interpret diagnostic tests and imaging studies.
Prescribe medications, therapies, and other treatments in compliance with regulations.
Educate and counsel patients and families on health maintenance, disease prevention, and treatment plans.
Perform procedures and treatments within scope of practice and assist with procedures and treatments when indicated.
Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to ensure continuity of care.
Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough documentation in the electronic medical record.
Participate in quality, safety, and performance improvement activities.
