About The Position

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a Masters degree in Nursing and/or a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
• Current Colorado license to practice as an Advanced Practice Nurse and/or Physician Assistant with prescriptive privileges.
• Meets and maintains specific requirements of the Nursing Credential Review Board (Nurse Practitioner) and the Medical Review Board (Physician Assistant).

• Two years’ experience in general surgery, trauma surgery, or critical care setting preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide independent clinical services as an Advanced Practice Provider for the Trauma and Acute Care Surgery (TACS) service at Anschutz Medical Campus, including inpatient rounding and consultative roles.
• Inpatient responsibilities include rounding, writing orders, independent imaging/laboratory review, patient assessment, patient education, care coordination, disease management, and discharge activities.
• Consult duties include participating in trauma bay resuscitations, seeing emergency general surgery & trauma consults, admitting patients, collaborating with consultants, performing bedside procedures and assisting in the operating room if needed.
• Perform outpatient responsibilities including clinic care, triage of phone calls, emails or faxes, post-op care, follow-up on home care requests, management of referrals and follow-up on diagnostic lab and radiology tests.
• Collaborate closely with general surgeons, sub-specialty surgeons, emergency medicine physicians, intensivists, hospital staff, and surgical residents.
• Provide professional interaction with referring physicians and staff, emergency medical personnel and multidisciplinary providers.
• Provide care to patients on the inpatient wards, the intensive care unit, acute care areas, and occasionally in the outpatient clinics.
• Serve as a critical part of service continuity and a link between the inpatient and outpatient environments for patients.
• Provide cross-coverage clinical care on different services as needed due to varying census and acuity.
