About The Position

Johnson & Johnson Innovative Medicine is seeking a Medical Science Liaison (MSL) – Gastroenterology (GI) to cover the Upstate New York territory. This role involves developing and maintaining relationships with Key Opinion Leaders/HCPs, providing scientific and clinical information on current and future Johnson & Johnson products in a non-promotional manner. The MSL is responsible for driving scientific exchange, executing territory plans, and generating actionable insights while upholding scientific integrity and compliance. The role also includes staying updated on therapeutic area trends, supporting investigator-initiated studies, and collaborating with internal teams. The MSL will leverage AI tools to enhance decision-making and efficiency. A key aspect of the role is fostering a culture of inclusion and belonging and understanding regulatory and compliance guidelines.

Requirements

  • A Doctorate level degree or equivalent experience is required (PharmD, PhD, MD, Advanced Practice Providers).
  • Post-graduate experience is required for Doctoral level candidates, with preference for therapeutic area clinical experience.
  • In-depth scientific and/or therapeutic knowledge.
  • Research and/or health care system knowledge.
  • Proficiency in data gathering and analysis, clinical expertise, problem solving, interpersonal influence, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Strategic thinking and competitive landscape analysis.
  • Ability to support a specific territory with up to 70% travel (in territory & for internal meetings & congresses).
  • Must hold a valid US Driver’s License.

Nice To Haves

  • 2+ years of relevant experience, preferably in MSL role.
  • 2+ years of therapeutic area experience is preferred.
  • Residency/fellowship preferred.
  • Board certification for clinical degrees preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a scientific engagement plan for the territory aligned with Medical Affairs strategy and medical objectives.
  • Cultivate strong professional relationships with community and academic opinion leaders/KOLs.
  • Engage in high-quality, two-way scientific exchange to foster dialogue and learning.
  • Utilize insights and MSL tools to develop a strategic approach for customer engagements.
  • Collect, synthesize, and apply clinical, scientific, competitive, and territory-level information.
  • Leverage AI tools and insights to enhance decision making, streamline processes, and improve efficiency.
  • Maintain awareness of direct and indirect competitors and incorporate relevant clinical context into discussions.
  • Deliver relevant scientific data tailored to HCP needs through clear and effective dialogue and presentations.
  • Engage healthcare providers and internal partners to identify challenges or unmet needs and propose evidence-based solutions.
  • Identify, collect, and submit high-quality actionable insights to inform medical strategy.
  • Respond to unsolicited inquiries on J&J products and research from external stakeholders.
  • Provide point-of-contact support to investigators and internal partners for company-sponsored and investigator-initiated studies.
  • Collaborate compliantly with internal stakeholders in a matrixed environment.
  • Demonstrate strong scientific acumen through continuous learning and engagement.
  • Foster a culture of inclusion and belonging.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of regulatory and healthcare compliance guidelines, corporate policies, and Medical Affairs SOPs.
  • Develop and implement a performance and development plan with the Field Director.
  • Perform all administrative requirements in a timely, accurate, and compliant manner, including activity documentation and expense reporting.
