About The Position

This position is for a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Technologist (MT) who is ASCP Eligible. The role involves performing a variety of diagnostic tests in different laboratory sections, maintaining equipment, ensuring accurate reporting of results, and providing excellent service to patients and colleagues.

Requirements

  • MLT, ASCP Eligible: Associate’s degree in science from an accredited institution and completion of an approved medical technician internship program.
  • MLT, ASCP Eligible: ASCP eligible.
  • MT, ASCP Eligible: Bachelor’s degree or higher in Medical/Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, Biology, Microbiology, or Chemistry from an accredited institution and completion of an approved Medical Technology internship program.
  • MT, ASCP Eligible: ASCP or equivalent certification required within six (6) months of hire.
  • HEW certification acceptable.
  • Must be courteous to patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, and other employees of the organization.
  • Operate within established control parameters for all laboratory test.
  • Ensure constant documentation and retention of all quality control data.
  • Practice efficient economical use of laboratory supplies and reagents.
  • Ensure adequate availability of required supplies and reagents and communicate to appropriate supervisory personnel when necessary.
  • Has ability to learn and perform new procedures established in the clinical laboratory.
  • Assist in work performed by MLT; orientation of all new personnel; training of students, and instruction to nontechnical personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Assumes responsibility for assigned areas of laboratory activity.
  • Maintains proficiency and performs diagnostic tests in blood bank, hematology, serology, chemistry, coagulation, clinical microscopy, and bacteriology/microbiology.
  • Carries out and initiates follow-up of diagnostic tests.
  • Draws venous or capillary blood from inpatients and outpatients as required.
  • Packages specimens together with pertinent information and arranges for delivery to reference laboratory.
  • Prioritizes requests according to need and condition.
  • Records and checks results of tests.
  • Ensures prompt transmittal of accurate reports and test results to physicians and nursing units.
  • Ensures proper reporting of charges and billing information for all services.
  • Completes periodic proficiency survey tests for unknown samples and required reports.
  • Prepares and sets up equipment for tests.
  • Assures proper calibration of equipment.
  • Performs and records daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checks of all laboratory equipment.
  • Keeps abreast of new developments in the field of clinical laboratory procedures, techniques, equipment, and computers.
  • Maintains work area in a neat, clean, and orderly condition.
  • Must wear facility provided identification badge at all times.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
