About The Position
The Medical Laboratory Technologist performs approved laboratory procedures in assigned licensure specialties to meet workload demands. The position works under the supervision of a Medical Laboratory Scientist II or III and is based on-site at TGH Desoto in Arcadia, Florida. It is a part-time day-shift position.
Requirements
- Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, or a bachelor's degree in Biology or Chemistry.
- Clinical Lab Technologist license or registration issued by Florida or a Compact State.
- Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical Technologist (AMT).
- Previous experience as a Medical Laboratory Technician; new graduates may be accepted at the Director's discretion.
Responsibilities
- Complete proficiency testing samples within the requested timeframe.
- Demonstrate competency in using the LIS and HIS computer systems.
- Ensure adequate supplies are available and promptly notify the supervisor when supplies are low.
- Assess situations from multiple perspectives, consider alternatives, and choose appropriate actions.
- Maintain a high level of accuracy, with no more than six minor errors per year.
- Perform testing within defined turnaround-time parameters for STAT, timed, and routine testing.
- Assist in solving problems encountered by Technicians and Phlebotomists.
- Complete all work during the shift without sacrificing quality of care and leave minimal work for the next shift.
- Notify the Nursing Supervisor and floors of instrument and LIS downtime.
- Accurately and promptly document quality control, calibrations, maintenance, test and order comments, and reagent information.
