Mobile Radar Mechanical Designer

About The Position
Leidos’ Defense Systems Mechanical Design & Analysis Department is seeking a Mobile Radar Mechanical Designer in Huntsville, Alabama, to design the Army Long-range Persistent Surveillance-Mobile (ALPS-M) product. The designer will use SolidWorks CAD and Windchill PLM to develop concepts, mature designs, and produce drawings for manufacturing and integration. The role is a technical contributor position requiring mechanical design principles and modeling practices for sheet metal parts, machined components, welded structures, and bolted assemblies. The designer will collaborate with the mechanical design team to create CAD designs and drawings that meet technical requirements.
Requirements
- U.S. citizenship and the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret security clearance.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering Technology or Design and Drafting Technology, or equivalent, from an ABET-accredited institution with 12 years of relevant experience; or a master’s degree with 8 years of relevant experience.
- Strong SolidWorks skills.
- Experience generating drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.100 and ASME Y14.5.
- Basic understanding and application of GD&T (ASME Y14.5) and tolerance stack-up analysis.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and in team environments.
Nice To Haves
- Windchill PLM experience.
- Design and/or integration experience with Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles (FMTV) and trailers, mobile tactical equipment, power generation, or payload erector systems.
- Experience with large steel structures, including welded structures, bolted assemblies, and machined parts.
- Experience with aluminum sheet metal parts, electronics racks and enclosures, and environmental control units.
- Experience with metal part finishes and coatings.
Responsibilities
- Design structural and enclosure components using SolidWorks CAD software.
- Generate drawings in accordance with ASME Y14.100 and ASME Y14.5.
- Produce technical data packages in accordance with MIL-STD-31000.
- Develop CAD designs and drawings that satisfy technical requirements in collaboration with the mechanical design team.
