Mechanical Drafter / Designer

Teledyne Technologies Incorporated•Huntsville, AL

About The Position

Creates and modifies detailed drawings from engineering sketches, layouts, or notes, and contributes design modifications that support manufacturing operations and product quality. Checks drawing plots for correctness and conformance to standards and works with design engineers on model accuracy, design, drafting standards, and ECN/ECR documentation. Assignments may be complex or non-routine and are performed under limited supervision. The role requires motivation, teamwork, quality focus, and readiness to work under schedule pressure. Designs major segments of complex subsystems and creates 3-D part and assembly models in SolidWorks 2023 to develop subsystem layouts, then prepares production drawings. Applies knowledge of materials, finishes, welding, and manufacturing processes. Works from concept through manufacture, integrates and packages electromechanical enclosures, performs Form, Fit and Function verification, and participates in design reviews. Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing personnel and supports fabrication by resolving design issues and updating drawings. Performs tolerance analysis and applies GD&T and applicable MIL-STD, ASME, NAS, and DOD standards. The position technically directs and checks the work of lower-level drafters and provides CAD software expertise for project problem solving. AutoCAD, SMAP 3D, or DraftSight may be used for 2-D drawings. Evening and weekend availability may be needed to meet goals and deadlines, and overtime is expected when needed. The position has no formal supervisory responsibilities, though it may provide technical leadership, training, work direction, and help resolve technical work problems.
