About The Position

MTI Instruments, a Vitrek company, is hiring a Mechanical Designer/Drafter to support expanding product development initiatives. This full-time role is based in Albany, New York, and is described as onsite, with hybrid options potentially available. The designer/drafter will collaborate with a local engineering team and the broader Vitrek organization, reporting to the Mechanical Team Manager and contributing to the product innovation process. The role creates, updates, and maintains engineering documentation; develops 2D and 3D CAD models, technical drawings, Bills of Materials, and electrical design files; and supports or leads design tasks, including prototype construction and testing. The position uses a range of CAD, business, engineering-change, document, and office software.

Requirements

Proficiency in 2D design using Autodesk AutoCAD Mechanical.
3D solid modeling experience in Autodesk Inventor and/or SolidWorks.
Associate degree or higher in a relevant Engineering Technology discipline from an ABET-accredited college or university.
At least 2 years of relevant experience in mechanical design and drafting.
Strong understanding of engineering concepts and experience in mechanical system and product design.
Excellent communication and presentation skills.
Familiarity with machine tools, including lathes, mills, CNC, and additive manufacturing.
Knowledge of drawing documentation standards, including ASME Y14.5.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.

Responsibilities

Create, update, and maintain engineering documentation under the guidance of the Mechanical Team Manager.
Develop 2D and 3D CAD solid models, technical drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and electrical design files.
Support and lead design tasks.
Assist with building and testing prototype products.
Work with Autodesk AutoCAD, Autodesk Inventor, SolidWorks, SAP Business One, Engineering Change Notice (ECN) systems, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Office Suite, and other tools.
