Mechanical Drafter / Designer

Teledyne Technologies•Huntsville, AL

About The Position

Creates and modifies detailed drawings using CAD hardware and software from engineering sketches, layouts, or notes. Contributes design modifications to support manufacturing operations and product quality, checks drawing plots for correctness and conformance to standards, and works with design engineers on model accuracy, design, drafting standards, and ECN/ECR documentation. The role may also include system-management tasks such as file maintenance, backup, and storage. Work is generally assigned with limited supervision and may include complex or non-routine assignments. The successful candidate is motivated, team-oriented, quality-focused, and able to work under schedule pressure. The position designs major segments of complex subsystems; creates 3-D part and assembly models in SolidWorks 2023; and prepares production drawings. It applies knowledge of materials, finishes, welding, and other manufacturing processes, supporting projects from concept through manufacture. The designer integrates and packages electromechanical enclosures, verifies form, fit, and function, participates in design reviews, coordinates with engineering and manufacturing, supports fabrication, resolves design issues, updates drawings, and performs tolerance analysis on mating parts. Designs must apply GD&T and relevant MIL-STD, ASME, NAS, and DOD standards. The role may technically direct and check the work of lower-level drafters, provide CAD expertise to solve project problems, and use AutoCAD or similar tools such as SMAP 3D and DraftSight for 2D drawings. Availability may be required during evenings and weekends to meet goals and deadlines, and overtime may be required. The position has no formal supervisory responsibilities, but may provide technical leadership, training, work direction, and help resolve technical work problems.
