About The Position

Requirements

• High school graduate or GED.
• For Transmission Lineman C: at least one year of transmission electrical power line work experience; alternatively, one year of related line experience consisting of successful completion of a one-year electrical power line school certificate plus at least 16 weeks of internship or transmission line experience, or an associate degree from an electrical power line school including at least 16 weeks of internship or transmission line experience.
• Valid Class A CDL is required.
• For Transmission Lineman B: at least two years of experience as Lineman C or equivalent experience as determined by the Company; must have performed Lineman C duties and meet its qualifications, subject to company qualification through demonstration, examination, and/or performance appraisal.
• For Transmission Lineman B: ability and desire to acquire the knowledge and skills for the Lineman A role, and to acquire the next-classification qualifications within the timeframe set by the Company or vacate the current classification.
• For Transmission Lineman A: successful completion of apprentice lineman training, including the B-200 certification written test with a score of at least 80% and successful hands-on comprehensive demonstrations. External candidates need at least four years of line-work experience and successful completion of the journeyman pre-assessment.
• For Transmission Lineman A: must have performed Lineman B duties and meet its qualifications, subject to company qualification through demonstration, examination, and/or performance appraisal.
• A physical abilities assessment is required for B and A classifications; the posting also lists physical-demand requirements for the role.
• Meet the listed physical demands, including specified lifting and carrying capacities, walking, climbing and working on structures, and ascending to and working in a bucket or lift.
• Ability to discriminate between colors; this ability is not tested.
• Successful candidate must reside within a 30-minute drive of the Texarkana Service Center under normal driving conditions.

Responsibilities

• Follow company safety rules, regulations, and practices, and report unsafe conditions or practices.
• Report irregularities and abnormal conditions.
• Patrol transmission lines using maps and drawings.
• Use proper hand signals and right-of-way control procedures for transmission line work.
• Install, maintain, and repair overhead lines.
• Dig holes for poles, towers, and anchors; set poles, tower below-ground components, and guy anchorages; and replace or stub poles, whether dead or energized.
• Make up and install guys, assemble tower components, and frame pole structures, on the ground and in the air.
• Properly attach tools and materials to life ropes and cables for installation or use in the air.
• Test and support poles before climbing as required.
• Operate miscellaneous transmission motor-driven tools; select and apply proper knots; and rig and tie off ropes.
• Under direct supervision of a qualified person, assist with live line tools, bare-hand techniques, rubber gloves and sleeves, and other accepted methods for maintaining transmission lines.
• Perform climbing maintenance on transmission structures, except cross-arms carrying energized conductors.
• Make up conductor and shield-wire splices, dead-ends, and terminals; identify conductor types and sizes; set up reels; and install conductors and shield wires.
• Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean and orderly.
• Assist employees of equal or higher classification, attend and participate in assigned training, and assist in training other employees.
• Perform similar or less-skilled work, maintain records, and submit required reports.
• Prepare right-of-way items properly on field drawings.
• Operate authorized automotive equipment and associated equipment, including truck-mounted lifting and pulling devices.
• Load and unload poles, steel, and other materials.
