About The Position
The Lab Processor supports patient-facing and non-patient-facing laboratory operations. The role performs venipuncture and other specimen collection, processes and prepares samples for testing, verifies orders, maintains logs, and follows safety and departmental procedures. The processor interacts with patients, providers, couriers, and laboratory staff to support accurate and timely testing. This is a full-time position with a schedule of 10:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., Monday through Friday. The position reports to the Laboratory Director and works closely with patients and other professionals to develop and enhance friendly, cooperative relationships. The role requires a high school diploma or GED. Completion of coursework from an accredited phlebotomy education program is preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The employee must obtain Washington State Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certification within three months of hire and HCP-level BLS/CPR certification within 30 days of hire. One year of hospital experience and customer service experience are preferred. Experience with computers, including MS Word, Excel, and the EPIC LIS program, is preferred. The position also requires critical thinking, independent problem-solving, accountability, safe judgment, adherence to legal and ethical guidelines, and the ability to care for patients across the age continuum. Physical requirements include frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting, as well as occasional reaching, kneeling, stooping, pushing, and pulling. The employee must communicate verbally and/or in writing to exchange information accurately with healthcare professionals, patients and/or family, and the public. Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Must obtain Washington State Medical Assistant Phlebotomist Certification within three months of hire.
- Must obtain HCP-level BLS (Basic Life Support)/CPR certification within 30 days of hire.
- Critical thinking skills, including seeking direction when necessary and performing independent problem-solving.
- Logical and deliberate decision-making; accountability; safe judgment; and practice within legal and ethical guidelines.
- Competency in caring for patients across the age continuum.
- Ability to communicate verbally and/or in writing to exchange information accurately with healthcare professionals, patients and/or family, and the public.
- Ability to meet physical requirements, including frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting, and occasional reaching, kneeling, stooping, pushing, and pulling.
Nice To Haves
- Certificate of completion of coursework from an accredited phlebotomy education program, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities
- Collect specimens, including through venipuncture, capillary puncture, drug screens, biometric screenings, and insurance exams.
- Process specimens by labeling, centrifuging, aliquoting, freezing, and preparing samples for transport.
- Enter test orders and verify written and electronic orders.
- Perform courier and transport runs to clinical departments.
- Retrieve results from the Laboratory Information System.
- Identify and resolve specimen issues or missing information.
- Maintain logs, inventory, supplies, and general workspace organization.
- Follow infection control, MSDS, safe-lifting, and departmental policies.
- Communicate professionally with patients, staff, and external clients.
- Provide phlebotomy support for outpatient collections.
- Batch specimens for referral testing sites.
- Receive clinic batches.
- Coordinate resolution of issues with referral testing sites.
- Serve as a liaison between technologists and the phlebotomy team.
- Answer phone calls.
