About The Position

Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree or higher earned academic degree.
• Massachusetts DESE Teacher license in Biology covering grades 8–12 is preferred.
• SEI Endorsement on the license is preferred.
• Ability to use school system databases, standard Microsoft and Google products, and web-based sites.
• Ability to select and use instructional methods and procedures appropriate to the situation.
• Ability to read and understand written information and listen to and understand spoken information and ideas.
• Ability to communicate information and ideas clearly in speaking and writing.
• Ability to work respectfully as part of a team and demonstrate constructive, collaborative behavior.
• A current, valid DESE license is required for appointments lasting more than 90 consecutive school days.

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate knowledge of Biology subject matter and its pedagogy through learning experiences that help students acquire complex knowledge and skills.
• Differentiate learning experiences based on students’ developmental levels and learning needs so all students can progress toward intended outcomes.
• Design standards-aligned instructional units with measurable outcomes and challenging tasks requiring higher-order thinking.
• Develop and maintain a classroom environment conducive to effective learning, including a safe physical and intellectual environment where students can take academic risks.
• Prepare assigned classes and provide written evidence of preparation when requested by the immediate superior.
• Design and administer informal and formal assessments, including common interim assessments, to measure student learning, growth, and progress toward state and local standards.
• Organize and analyze assessment results, adjust instruction, and identify or implement differentiated interventions and enhancements for all students, including students with disabilities and English learners.
• Provide descriptive feedback based on assessment results and engage students and families in constructive conversations about improving performance.
• Set consistently high expectations for student work, effort, and perseverance, and use instructional practices likely to motivate and engage students.
• Implement the district’s educational philosophy, instructional goals, and objectives through instruction and professional conduct.
• Encourage students to establish and maintain classroom behavior standards; use routines and appropriate responses to prevent behavior that interferes with learning.
• Use strategies that affirm and show respect for differences in students’ backgrounds, identities, languages, strengths, and challenges.
• Share conclusions about student progress with appropriate colleagues and seek their feedback on instructional and assessment practices.
• Support families’ active participation in the classroom and school community; communicate curriculum and strategies for supporting learning at school and home, including appropriate adaptations.
• Maintain two-way communication with families about student performance and learning, respond promptly and respectfully, and demonstrate sensitivity to families’ home languages, cultures, and values.
• Be available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested under reasonable terms.
• Reflect on lessons, units, and interactions with students, individually and with colleagues, and use insights to improve practice and student learning.
• Seek and apply ideas from supervisors, colleagues, professional development, and other resources to improve practice and develop expertise or assume additional instructional and leadership responsibilities.
• Collaborate with colleagues on standards-based units, examination of student work, analysis of student performance, and intervention planning.
• Maintain accurate and complete records as required, including progress reports, report cards, student grades and attendance documentation; attend TEAM and parent/teacher conferences.
• Demonstrate sound judgment, integrity, honesty, fairness, and trustworthiness, and appropriately protect student confidentiality.
• Fulfill professional responsibilities reliably, including timely completion of paperwork, duties, and assignments, and regular attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the building Principal.
